View Full Version : Looking for some rig advice!
I have been gaming for about 8 years now, and I really got into computer gaming about 2 years ago, and now, I'm really into CS:S. But, sadly, my current rig doesn't run CS:S very well, I have low graphics settings, and I average 30 fps! So, I was looking to you all for some advice! I am on a VERY tight budget, I am currently unemployed, but getting a job soon. And I'd like a rig that can do CS:S at around 1024x768 resolution, and all graphics setting maxed (shader, shadow etc.) but I dont need/want v-sync on, nor do I want HDR, and Id like an average of about 50-60 fps, can anyone send me link to premade computer, or anything of that sort that has the parts I need to hit my fps goal? Thanks so much!

What are you upgrading from? Could be something as easy as getting a new video card for your current setup.
Well, for right now, I can tell ya, that Im really only looking to spend around 600-800$ on a new rig. And my current PC is a major POS! LOL! Its like a Gateway from 2002 with a ATI Radeon 9250 PCI 128 MB and I put in 1.5 GB of RAM. Thats all that makes it good. So I definently need a full on upgrade!

in the video stress test i get 152 fps, if that helps. atleast now you know about what you'll need. oh and that's with all optimizations on ( driver settings image & quality )

If you want a prebuilt this is a good deal:

If you choose the dual-core config for $419 and keep all default options you can pick up a 7600GT for under $100, and the system will absolutely tear apart CS:S. You could even add the 19" monitor option for $180 which isn't a bad deal.

Or preferably you could build an identical system off newegg for like $100 more and have the ability to overclock and tweak it.
That imho is your best bang for buck option if you just want something that can play CS:S at 1024x768, you can go a lot lower spec-wise and build something for less than $450. But definitely for the extra $50-100 you should get the best possible performance.
