Since there's a Xeon 3060 thread and no 3070 thread I thought i'd start. the Xeon 3070 I just got (from the egg) is a 29B! batch code is L629B608.

I can post at 3.9Ghz with 1.38 volts but that's as high as I've gone so far. It's going to be hard to do my homework this weekend lol

the 680i boards aren't as good overclockers as the intel boards are that's for sure. I'm currently running 3.6Ghz at 1.5 volts on my 3070. I needed 1.55 volts on my E6600 to get 3.3Ghz.

What are your temps with the 3070? We have very similiar setups. 42c idle and 58-60c orthos small FFT for me. Again thats 3.6 @ 1.45v

currently my orthos blend is at 58C on asus probe and 53C on core temp with the room temp at 22C. What's you superpi 32MB time? here are some 3.5Ghz scores 3.6Ghz I'm still doing orthos on.

I wonder if I'll be able to get this stable?

just finished trying for my max stable as well.got it to 4 but it gets to damn hot to run orthos,i stopped it when the temps hit 66c.

L629B08 same as yours Safan :) so far im loving it.running orthos @3.7 1.45 as i type this.ive achieved my goal tho lol.ive never had a cpu that could run 4gigs period lol.both of my 6600s topped out at 3.8 no matter the vcore.

you should be able to run 4Ghz... the thing I noticed at 4 Ghz is the NB gets too hot, I put a fan over my NB waterblock and it allows me to push the system farther. my load temps are in this picture here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2093155&postcount=412).

what's up with the low voltages.
i hear of ppl running their conroes at 1.3-1.55 for these speeds. am i missing something or?

Xeons are binned for lower voltages compared to their desktop counter parts.

Here's some results with my oced 8800GTX running on air and a 32MB superpi with the ram set to 1015 at cas4. the image has been resized from 2560x1600 to 1680x1050.

Hey - I just got a 3070 today and have the same exact batch code as yours and Maxfly - L629B608. Where did you two end up? Did you both level off around 3.6?
Mine is orthos blending 3.6 @ 1.388v. 3.8 @ 1.48 is building too much heat for my loop...over 70C.
I'm guessing mine will post at 4.0, but I doubt I'll get it 24x7 stable with reasonable temps.

im running 3.7 1.4575v 24/7 with mine.anything higher and the voltage needs to go alot higher to run stable and temps get crazy.your probably right about the 4 gig oc.im sure itll run at that but if its like mine (sounds like it)the temps will skyrocket at that speed and voltage.im very very seriously contemplating a pelt to help fend off the summer ocing woes lol.
your going to love that stepping btw!enjoy :)

Yeah, I'm liking it quite a bit now. It's two hours into the Orthos blend at 3.6 with the voltage I noted above. I did have to bump the vMCH up .025 to get it there. I'm hoping it will do 8 hours stable there, and then I'll try to settle it in about where you are.

Yup. I ordered Sunday night and it came out of the Memphis warehouse. I must admit I was very surprised to see a 29B, but I'd like to think it's the result of my "strategy" to get an older batch chip. :D Over the past two weeks I've mucked around with a 40A 6600 and a 44A 4300. Both were just mediocre overclockers (if you can really consider any C2D mediocre). Probably like many others, I just figured there would be plenty of Conroe Xeon stock sitting around since the prices just dropped recently...and I got damn lucky. :D
cool, just ordered an e4400 Sunday thats on its way from NJ thinking the same thing. 350 is a little out of my price range for a holdover cpu (Q3 price drop:) )

Is it worth the extra $100 to get a x3070 instead of the x3060?

That's really up to you to decide. I thought about a 3060, but so many have been circulating since their release in the fall, I assume I'd end up with a week 40 or later, which seem to have a lot less headroom than the chips from week 26 - 32. I decided on a 3070 because I saw far less about them than any other Conroe on XS and other sources. $100 bucks is a $100 bucks though. :yepp:
Maybe the upcoming releases will be better - no one really knows. The 6850 could be a nice chip, as could the 3065/3075 in at least the dual core arena. I have no need for a quad, so I figured I would gamble on doing this to satisfy my needs for the next year. I don't plan on buying anything else until Penryn arrives...

I would say yes because the Xeon is binned to run at lower volts.

I got this exact same chip last week with a 3060 that I got from the Egg. This chip sat on my shelf all week while I was testing the 3060....I didnt know what i was sitting on until I looked at this evening. I'm testing it now.

so far I'm only at 3.7 GHz using only 1.42V. I've only tested with 3Dmark2k1 and havent had time to really put the screws to it. BTW nice board. I'm eyeing the P5K WS myself so that I can run my SCSI RAID card to its full potential. I'm in the middle of a move so my test bed has been down for the last week. I'll try to report back with more extensive testing once we're all settled in.
