What do you guys think about the new CoolIt? It has pretty good reviews but seems expensive.

It sucks... The TEC chilling thing is just something they use to advertise. Under load its screwed over.

As someone who has actually used a CoolIT product, the Freezone (unlike the post above mine) I can say that in my experience, the Freezone is unsuitable for highly overclocked CPUs. If you're running stock, it might be OK. With an AM2 X2 3800+ overclocked to 2.7GHz, the Freezone was worse than air cooling (Freezer 64 Pro) under load - 48C load compared to 44C. It was also noisier and used more power. I switched to a regular water cooling system (Storm, MCP655, PA120.3) and have been much happier, and 10C cooler.

Yeah i agree with theelectic, this unit is made for stock clocked systems that have a very low tdp. If you wanted to use it on a C2D or a AM2 it wont handle anything more than stock voltages and speeds. If you wanted to use it on an older processor from a couple years back, like celeron or opteron, then you may have the headroom. But not for current procs.

Agreed, its a waste of money.
This idea can work but it would require a huge tec, consequently a huge psu to power it, and a huger power bill to follow.

What might you suggest instead of it?
IIRC, petra said it was a piece of.. no good :p: . So if petra says it...
to replace that, you can use many other stuff that will prolly perform much much better. If you are a bit lazy and do not want to make your own kit go and buy one of the selected kits of petra and I am sure they wont let you down

Any basic high performance regular watercooling setup. I'm using a PA120.3 radiator, but even my ancient BIX1 was better than the CoolIT. If you want a simple prebuilt kit for the same price as a CoolIT, try a Koolance external kit.

Depends on what you want. If you want something better then air but nothing extreme then good water cooling. If you want something more, phase change. If you are really bent on tecs, which aren't that great, put it directly on your cpu and water cool it, no reason to hurt performance by putting water in between.

The Coolit Freezone is a very nice product. No it is not perfect, it is a little load but a very good cooler. My E6400 running at 3.2 or 403 FSB with Cpu voltage at 1.45 is running in the high 40 under full gaming load. Very effective cooler as the review have concluded. Wish it had a 120 fan versus the 90 fan to reduce the fan noice. I am sure the folks will improve on their product in time. As it is, it does the job.

I know opinions are opinions but what it comes down to is for the same amount of money there are MUCH better products, so really Coolit Freezone is a very bad product next to its competition; and not so great on its own either.

I get 36C on my dual Xeon rig + Nb on just air alone! 2.8GHz OCd to 3.2GHz!
Upper 40ies I'd throw it out!

It works. 3.73 6800 gets into the 50's though on full burn (Everest for temps)
On 1.45-1.48v it idles in the mid to high 30's, and that's not exactly superb.
Probably my best suggestion is that I'm swapping it out for a WC cpu only loop. So if you are thinking of it, might want to consider a small cpu only loop instead.
