Shouldn't the x1900xtx up the clock from 2D/3D once a 3D application loads? I've noticed that mine does not (just using CCC). I don't have it OC (at the moment, I am trying to figure out why I am having OC'ing problems) and wanted to know even if you don't use ATI Tool, ATI Tray or CCC's overclocker shouldn't it still clock up? Do I have to enable something in CCC? I have the hotkeys disabled and System Tray Menu disabled.

For the past few days I was having problems playing BF2 where it would hang in game. What would happen is that I would play BF2 and about 10 minutes it would freeze (with repeated sound) and black screen. Then about 5-10 seconds later the ATI recovery program kicked it (kicking me back to desktop). BF2 was minimized. I would simply maximize BF2 and continue playing. Sometimes it would happen again other times it wouldn't.

If you aren't overclocking and you have shutdown ati2evxx your clocks will not change once entering 3D mode.

Also a note: It will only switch clocks when a fullscreen 3D application is run. Windowed 3D applications will not force it to switch.

The ATi Hotkey Poller that you shut down is reportedly what enables 2d/3d mode switching.

Using ATiTool or ATT, you can probably create 2d/3d profiles though.. it's just enough of a PITA that I'm still using ATT and the overdrive function built in.

Thanks for the heads up.
Fullscreen 3d app is running
ATI Hokey Poller enabled
Still at 499.50/594.00

Should I RMA the card?

I hope you restarted when you tested. Its the service that needs to be enabled, not necessarily the process.

Also, if you flashed it to a non-original bios, that might do it.

Yes, I did restart it but still nothing.

This is odd, I cannot get Rabit 2.2.1 to recognize the bios and when I try to make a copy with ATI Tool .26 the screen turns into a bunch of lines. Is there something funky going on with this bios?

Does ATiWinFlash recognize the bios?

As a final resort, I would uninstall ATITool, reinstall the new cats and see how it goes.

No go but others have reported problems with this program (used google). I already uninstalled .25 B14 to .26, .27 has some issues. I guess I can try Cat 7.2 but I really don't see any difference since 6.10 has worked best for me for some time now. I wonder if they put these drivers on a time limit??

This is odd, ATI Tool bumps up the clock with a 3d app no problem, even in a window but the regular Cat 6.10 doesn't???

Ok, I finally got things working again however, it appears that I now must resort to a lower OC. Although the 3d clock doesn't work at stock it does work with ATI Tool. Is there anyone out there ever heard of a video card losing its ability to maintain it's overclock?

Ok I think I have it narrowed down to the memory. I had it OC to 855 and now that I have it OC to 846 I am not getting that same problems. I guess I have to remove the ramsinks and see if I have one leaving some sort of gap.

I want to post this so that if someone else has this problem they can look at what I did to fix it.

The issue with the freezing, black screen, kick back to desktop was the memory overheating. I had it OC to 855.00Mhz and as long as I reduced it to 846.00Mhz it was fine. So I took the card out and examined the ram sinks that I had epoxied on (using AS5) the ram. Two ram sinks came off with ease and 1 of them had very little adhesion on the ram (which I believe was the problem). A little dap simply wasn't enough. This time I covered the entire ram with AS5 epoxy and re-applied the ram sinks. Then re-installed everything and now it works like it did in the past at 855.00MHz. Now BF2 runs fine about about 2-3 rounds at that clock speed.
:woot:

GPU 742.50
Mem 855.00

VGPU 1.525V
MVDDC 2.108V or 2.113V
MVDDQ 2.108V or 2.113V
VDDCI 1.508V

Works great!!!

As far as the 2D/3D clocks go I will continue to let ATI Tool do that for me. Even though it's odd that x1900xtx will not go into 3D clock on it's own still functions fine with ATI Tool. Yes, I would like to solve this however, it appears to be more of a bios issue then anything else so far. It appears that the bios is not properly communicating with the Cat. It will won't even OC using the Cat overclocker (without using ATI TOOL of course). The program that I use most is RTHDRIBL along with Rivaturner to see if it goes into 3d clocks. Regardless if I put it in a window or full screen 3d clocks will not enable unless I use ATI Tool. Once I use ATI Tool it goes into 3D with no problem.

Weird.. I wouldn't be using such old drivers anyways. Better Avivo support and better CCC in the last one.

I haven't figured out how to use Avivo yet. I do like to watch DVDs on the computer but I don't now how to use this Avivo. I thought it was best used if use connect your HDTV through S-video = component (as a second display). The dvd program that I use have some of the features that Avivo have. Honestly Avivo is missing it's own DVD program that integrates the functionality with a real DVD/HD DVD program. That way it makes using Avivo less confusing. Also, there needs to be more information on how to use it and what to use it for. I honestly don't have a clue what practical application Avivo has. Is it for DVD movie watching, can it help you play games better, what? What do I use it for if I watch DVDs, play games and use it for other programs.

I have read this link (http://ati.amd.com/technology/Avivo/index.html) and some of the information is so generalize that it only leads me to ask, "What do I use it for?" What I mean is simple, "What Avivo products do I use to enable Avivo?"

Avivo is just an internal video processing chip on x1k cards. You will see benefits when watching just regular videos, but if you get something like Cyberlinks latest PowerDVD player, it has the option to enable full Avivo support. You can also get it with cyberlink H.264 codec (I think its cyberlink..).

ok thanks for the info I will look into it more. Odd they don't mention this at the homepage (or I missed it).
