I will basically be using this only until december (when r600 and cpu prices fall/stabilize)

Right now I'm using a Athlon XP 2500, Radeon 9700 Pro, 512 DDR400. I already have a Antec Trio 650w power supply.

So basically I decided to upgrade my cpu, motherboard, and use my current ram, videocard, etc.

I decided on this motherboard already: ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157107

Now, problem is, I don't know what cpu to choose. It has to be less than $100, either retail, or oem + hsf total less than $100.

I was thinking about Pentium D915 pressler, but people were saying how it overheats alot, so should I go with a D805 smithfield instead?

Price wise, they are almost identical, $97 and $95 for retail versions.

Thanks

uhhhhhhhh
If a mod could move this thread to general hardware, or CPU section, that would be great, sorry posted in wrong section

Have you thought of waiting for the AMD price drop in April and picking up cheap AM2 w/ cheap AMD x2? The Pentium D's are pretty freakin' crappy.

Yea I did, but then I'd have to buy another motherboard though.

Can you wait until April 22 for the Intel Price drops?

The e4300, which I am using with my Dual-Vsta, will only be $113.00 USD. And if you really want the old gen, they too will be dropping in price.

Good luck,
Bryan d

PS - With my e4300, I was able to pad mod it to 2.4GHz with no BIOS tweaks. It will blow any CPU AMD has to offer within the price range, that's for sure.

An E4300 with this board and your old RAM and videocard will be a serious upgrade. Forget about any chips that aren't C2D.
