View Full Version : phase in a cm stacker?

has anyone built a custom phase change unit that fit inside a cm stacker? i was thinking at the bottom where the second power supply space is. there is room up front under the drive bays of about 5 1/2" wide, 7" deep, 10" tall. along with the 8" wide, 14" deep, 3 3/4" tall area at the bottom under the motherboard.
if there was a small enough condenser that was 7 1/2" by 13 1/2" it could be layed down to blow out of the bottom... is that possible to position it that way? the compressor could possibly fit in the 5 1/2" x 7" x 10" area, if there is one in that size.
of coarse it would be nice to make some cover plates to block it in from being seen, along with a couple 80mm fans exhausting out of the back. im just throwing this out there, because im thinking of doing water and was curious about the alternatives.
here is a small review on the stacker with some pictures of it.

thanks for any insight!

it would probably be doable with a smaller compressor, it wouldn't be quite the same as some Li-an cases that have a much larger bottom compartment, but condensors need gravity to collect the condensed liquid and can't be layed flat

i used hermetic 1/6 compressor with r134 gaz on cm stacker and for condenser i used thermaltake watercooling radiator and i got very good results...but ypu cannot use bigger than 1/6 because it would heat inside tha case... if you use a good ventilation system in stacker you can use 1/6 lg...
i hope it would help...

their are horizontal condenser designs
4Qman and Sacha35 did something like that.
If they don`t mind, here is the link to their work:

Hear the link for the build, it was very tight to fit everything but we got there, also like we did you will need to look at covering the compressor as to stop any heat transfering to the rest of the PC.
Anyway hears the link for you and good luck with your build.

The condensor was purchased from here:

Goodluck with the build and will look forward to see how things go, shoot me or sacha a PM if you need some help. Remember the biggest factor is heat from the compressor. So try to go with a design where the compressor is enclosed and heat removed out of the case.
again goodluck

unfortunately, i live in the states. you guys seem to have more phase change users over there :fact: .
i was looking on the web, and came accross a compressor that may be too small (1/8hp compressor (http://cgi.ebay.com/MATSU:banana::banana::banana::banana:A-RECIPROCATING-COMPRESSOR-1-8-HP-R12-or-R134a_W0QQitemZ150056173418QQcategoryZ53289QQtcZph otoQQcmdZViewItem)). i have an e6600 that i would love to get to 4ghz. would something like this be too small?
thanks again!

i think you must use at least 1/6 compressor for load temps and wattage...

thanks, i was just happy about the size of it. it would fit in between the rails and be completly out of view. the one that you linked didnt have any dimensions, do you know where i could find out how big it is?
thanks again!
