Samsung introduces 30-inch LED-based monitor

Featuring a 123% color production, the SyncMaster XL30 expresses Adobe RGB color range allows pictures taken with DSLR cameras to transmit emerald green, dark red and other natural colors onto the monitor in their true form. Other features include a 3,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 2ms response time and a viewing angle of 170 degrees.

Considering the size, they'd be fools to make it any less than 1920x1200... Probably even 2560x1650 (if I remember the numbers correctly :p: )

Its an LED backlit LCD. NEC have had a 24"er for ages, so its nothing 'new' but its great that nore manufacturersare moving to LED's as a backlight source. Especially those who are considering a brightside style technology.

LED monitors are sexy, the color control is amazing in comparison to normal lcd's...

i mean when my monitor is all black is has spots that are lighter then others... black level sucks, and this same unequal light ruins the color balance too...

fortunatly im not an artist so this doesnt matter to me, but with LED the image quality goes up in a major way.

well, even cheap TN panels are GOOD ENOUGH for doing a bit of art. I'm on a TN monitor right now and it doesn't interfere with my work.

Admittedly if I were doing more work at a professional level, I would certainly shift a CRT monitor and use the LCD monitor right beside it.

We need 2.35:1 AR (64:27) monitors now....next step theoretically (first 4:3, now 16:9, then 64:27)....and movies are more and more often getting shipped to DVD/HDDVD/BluRay in this AR anyway. Besides, with 16:10 and 16:9, you can't quite get two full windows right next to each other :(

Im with you on that one. the picture from the article does look more like 4:3 monitor than a widescreen to me as well at least the resolution is right for widescreen even if the picture doesnt look like it.

P.S It would be nice if they would come up with a 22" 4:3 monitor at a resonable price point since there aren't many games out there that support 16:9 or 16:10.

Anyway, yes you are right it is a 4:3 ratio (or 5:4 I can't tell), non-widescreen 30in LCD.

My guess is that it will either be 1920x1440 or 2048x1536 resolution, unless they are going to do some absurd marketing claims like multiplying the LCD res by the 3x of the LED backlight res...
