Core 2 Quad 6600 drops at $530

Roadmap: Prices are going down

Intel is getting ready for AMD's counter attack. As of 22nd of April Core 2 Quad Q6600 will drop to $530. Today you have to spend around $851 to get this beast.

This CPU has four cores and works at 2.4 GHz and total of 8 MB of cache.

The most expensive XQ6700 still costs $999 and this wont chance till Q3 when Intel plans to reveal QX6800 clocked at 2.93 GHz.

Q6400 is deleted from the roadmaps and won't be released at all but in Q3 QX6600 clocked at 2.4 GHz will drop to $266 only.

Intel will also introduce a new Quad core called Q6700 but we don’t know what will be the difference compared to QX6700 as the spec looks identical.

In this week alone I've seen at least 3 different takes on what the price cuts will be.

The only thing certain now is that there will be cuts, but no one has any credible info on what those cuts will be.

In the last two months I've seen the same two sets of data posted over and
over again, one for the april 22 drops and another for the q3 drops. Strange...
you say there's a secret xtremesystems forum I can't see where those are
posted?

E6420 has the same price as E6400? same for E6300 and E6320? Does Intel want to keep 2MB cache CPUs on shelves forever?

New Xeons and pricecuts in Q3

Intel will be releasing new Xeon models in Q3 this year. The quad core 5300 series will get a 3.0GHz part to take the lead from the current 2.66GHz model. The single processor line up will get a 2.66GHz part as well. Besides higher clocks the new models will remain identical to the current parts.

Additionally Prices for most Xeon models will be lowered in a very aggressive way, obviously to battle AMD's Barcelona chip. A quad core Xeon could be yours for just over $200 (1.6GHz model) in July. For a full list of new prices check out DailyTech (http://www.dailytech.com/Intel+Readies+New+Xeons+and+Price+Cuts/article6493.htm).

Xeons have a lower stock voltage, but otherwise they are similar to the desktop equivs

So it's possible to use a Xeon in a desktop??You don't need a special mobo or whatever for it?
