at default voltage, primed stable at 3400mhz and 243fsb 1:1 at the moment but hell this things hot compared to my old 1700+.

i can barely touch the slk900 its so hot, asus probe is saying 58c at the moment. now its a damn hot day here but these temps are WAY high.

im using a 45cfm 92mm papst fan on the slk.

Id have a mach2 on it if i could get hold of one but the only shop in uk thats had them sold out without even putting them on their website for me to order one, and they now saying 3-4 weeks before they get more!!!

are these temps normal for stock voltage? (reading 1.47 under load and 1.53-1.55 idle all according this asusprobe crap). This is on a P4C with 1006 bios.

also it wont even do 3430 at default voltage which i think makes this a crap chip, am i right? or is it just the temps causing such a poor overclock?

I'd say your temps are the cause of your "crap" overclock. A 45cfm 92mm really isn't big enough for an SLK-900, a 50cfm 80mm would work better if you've got one lying around. Either that or wait until the shops oopen and get yourself a new high CFM fan.

Ewok, your temps are to high for that voltage and hs, I'll bet you need to take your hs off and reset it. this time only use a very very thin layer of AS3 on the cpu die, so thin you can almost see through it.

i have a very very thin layer on it and i got it as smooth as i could before i stuck it on. ive always found even if its applied badly it only makes 3 maybe 4c difference at most and thats still gonna be damn hot.

ive been trying to get it faster and even at 1.675vcore its STILL unstable at 3500 even though it does 3400 at default (which is 1.525 for a 2.8?)

i dont think its the mem as i can run this mem at 243 1:1 and it still fails at 3500 at 250 mem with 5:4 which should mean it isnt the mem causing it.

i opened the case to try this to cool it a bit more and temps hit 60c under superpi AND prime load at 3500 at the same time and at 1.675v. They hit 55c with default volts at 3400, not much diff between them, i thought it be much higher at 1.675 than stock volts.

im trying to work out if this is a bad chip or not cos im wanting 4ghz 24/7 stable when i get a mach2 and i wont be impressed if i get stuck at 3.8 or 3.9.

i have a 47cfm 80mm delta which does cool better but is irritatingly loud compared to the papst, ill stick it on and re-mount it later. These temps are still better than the temps i was getting with the stock cooler+AS3.

try reseating the HSF?

already did once when i tried to selotape the 92mm papst onto the hs cos i didnt have the fan clips in and they wouldnt go in past the screws, didnt make any diff then, ill take it off and reseat it again with the 80mm 47cfm delta on it tomorrow. im goin out now so ill leave it running prime overnight till i get back tomorrow just to help burn the chip in a bit.

its at 41c with case open at idle, stock volts and 3400, shoots up to 55c under load which strikes me as a big difference between idle and load. That tell anyone anything?

im not totally convinced its a seating problem because the heatsink does get VERY hot to touch so the heat transfer seems to be ok.

i got a MSI P4 2.4 B with a thermaltake Spark 7, with the oc bios it reads 65C load, this has been up since i bought it about 2 weeks now so far no probs.
