Got a P4 2.8 800fsb and a P4c i875 from Asus coming today. Will be combin in in a Lian Li case, Maxtor 8mg cache, 2x512 Corsair 3500, and Antec true power 430( maybe a little weak). Not doing raid yet.

Are there any downloads I need to get on disk before I start. New drivers or anything. Seems I remember seeing everyone changing bios but since the only time I've changed bios is on the A7N8X Deluxe with the Asus utility for windows I'll have to read up first. I must have cahnged my bios 35 times without a problem. Wish this board had a windows utility.

Don't get jealous yet. The only thing that made it today is the processor. Mb is still in route. Its coming from only 225 miles away. The processor made it from California to Florida in 26 hours.:D :D

Well I guess it's time to show how noob I really am. A couple of questions. This is the first Intel processor I've seen, it just got here. How come there is no little square die on it. Is that whole big flat part the die like on an amd. Does that whole thing get thermal paste on it. Is it ok to use Arctic Silver.

I will be using stock heatsink that shipped with this retail box. Should I remove the existing thermal goop and use Arctic Silver?

Is the slk 900 considered one of the best air cooling options for Intel.P4?
These are my current votages with hardware in sig.. Antec true 430. Do they look acceptable ?
12=11.968
5=4.865
3.3=3.168

Sorry, I'm sure more noob questions will follow.

The die is covered by the heatspreader. Yes, the whole thing gets thermal paste on it.

I would.

Yes, I think so.

Typical for an Antec (somewhat low), but should be acceptable.

Thanks Brainstorm. So far I haven't been able to get it to do anything. Fans whir for about half a second and then stop. I've tried everything down to only memory and have tried 3500 and 2700 with no success. I reset Cmos and will try again tomorrow bt so far no go. Put the old A7N8x back in and started up fine. Oh well, I obviously don't have my Intel legs yet.

Anyone with ideas, I'm pretty new so even if it seems obvious let me know. Is there a jumper on this board I should have changed before starting. Read manual but haven't found answer. Thanks:)

Ok I'm up and running. Bios are a lot different than my A7N8X Deluxe. I am at 245fsb=3433. Beyond that and I start getting blue screens. I have my Vcore on Auto and also my DDRv on auto. Is the auto setting upping them or just leaving them at default. What is safe on air standard retail box cooling as far as vcore and is it safe to up the DDRv settings . How much. I know that's what I have to find out but this is my first intel rig and it seems a lot different. Thanks. So far I'm loving it. :)
