makes no real difference for me, so since I cant find anything different i'd use the 1.3 since its newer with less bugs apparently

I was just wondering myself, I just got a IC7, someone left it at the front door :D

Gunna hook it up and see how it compares to P4C.

Quite a few have claimed better Sandras and 3DMarks with the new 1.3 BIOS. Some have reported being able to hit higher FSB's.

I haven't heard anything negative on it, so I'd say 1.3.

No difference here either. I also went with the 1.3 for the same reasons as JC.

Hey, OPP, I'm looking forward to your results with great interest. I'm not sure it's the best overclocker of them all, but it is certainly a very sweet board in it's own right. So, stick the heavy duty OC to it and make it squeal and call you daddy:D

I think in terms of CPU overclock, this might be the best board.

FSB and memory ratios seem to be hit or miss, but with a 3.0C its a lot easier. It wont "need" to reach 285 FSB to be good. But there is a lot of speed in the mem settings in the advanced menu. But as i've noticed, some IC7's will run tighter settings than others even if they max out around the same FSB

JCviggen how's abit IC7 compared to your modded epox 4PCA3+ in terms of overclocking performance and so on ?

im dying to know wut board is the best in your guys opinion.

hows that epox? havent seen any, anywhere. :(

Truth be told, guys...they're all pretty good, really.
What board is best for you will depend on other things, like features, or what cooling you're using.

IC7's been my favorite so far, simply because it's 1) only $140, 2) has ICH5R, 3) looks good, and 4) overclocks quite well.

It's a really safe bet.

Oh...Now people just give stuff to OPP without even letting him know  ...Where are my fanatics who give me free stuff?

Well I'm stuck at 275 with the 5:4 divider, drop it to 3:2 and it does 3D to 279 just like the Asus except it needs the 3:2:D
Will a mem mod fix this problem? If so, what is the mem mod?

Opp, unfortunantly this board is like the IT7 boards....you have to remove a pin or something on the board..:(

Afaik, technically the voltage regulator only goes up to 3.0 or something so a mod is pretty pointless.....I might have it wrong, but this is how I understand it to be...:)

No it's easy actually, just remove R-50 and attach 1k VR, I'm just not sure if it will get the 5:4 to 279 though, if it doesn't I'll be going back to the P4C untill I can find a high overclocking MSI mobo.

Hmmmm thats hard for me though :p
hehehehe

Good to see how you go with that 5:4 279 this afternoon. I hope the Abit board pulls through for you.....:)

i have a question...if i want set pat enable on ic7....
where i can found this setting in bios??
is performance mode = pat??
thanks.

Zroc

No. PAT is either on, or it's not...it's not a BIOS function.
It is on if you're using an 800 FSB proc...if using a 533 proc, it is not.

hmmm, just a curiosity, if i were to set the NB strap mode on the IC7 to 667 would this turn PAT of? as the northbridge would be being TOLD that its running a 667FSB bus and processor which in real terms is ofcourse impossible but meh, wateva, im of to see if it turns of pat and somehow makes a difference to my overclock which up to this point has been nothing to brag about :(

3450MHz of a 2.6C with a SLK900U and thermalcrap smartfan 2 set to full freakin blast and with voltages upto 1.7 and its still not budging.:( i think i have a dud:confused:

3.45 on air isn't bad at all, dim3z. Most folks I've seen on air with 2.4's or 2.6's are settling in the 3.2-3.4 range.

dim3z

yeh still, makes me feel bad

260 FSB(3380Mhz) i can prime till the cows come home at minimum fan speed (1300rpm) and default volts

265 FSB FSB(3445Mhz) i can prime forever at 1.55volts and minimum fan speed

so youd think i could do 270FSB at 1.6 -1.7 volts and with the fan turned up to max but no matter wat i try i cant get it to run:(

i have an utterly crap PSU that fluctuates on the 12(12.46-11.55volts) volt line like a mofo so that might let me into 270FSB if i replace it, can anyone comment on the likeliness of me bieng able to get to 270FSB with a new PSU which ill be getting next week.

and then i just feel like crap when i see ppl with 2.4C's getting 3.6Gigs on air, oh well, cant have it all i guess..

Simple setup

Antec Piano Black,
Abit IC7
P4 2.4C
Kingston Hyper-X 3500 CL2
Sapphire Rad9500
- All virgin setup, no oc's yet -

Please guys, give me a hint of params to be tuned on IC7 - all I'm looking for now is a modest 3 - 3,1 GHz ???

Do I have to tune the Volts up ? It declined to boot when I tested it simply just setting EC to 250. Is there simple monkey-list to set these up?

Thanks in advance !

The newbie...

ok, "a family man", try this, this is for 3GHz

go into bios.

SOFTMENU -

here change vmem to 2.8V

change the FSB to 250

change ram ratio to 4:5

reset, see of everything is stable.

then go to advanced chipset settings and try running ram at 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 if that doesnt work set it to 2-3-3-7 and start slowly going down.

report back when ure done and ill give more instructions:)

AFamilyMan

I did it - before I got to read your instructions !!
:)
Except that not the voltage and latencies or steppings or whatarethey. Now its all like you instructed and there is still a picture in my monitor - so it's working perhaps ?!
:p

Now its like this:
EClock 250
DRAM timing 5:4
DDR SDRAM volt 2.8
Mem steppings 2-5-2-2
Otherwise all stock params.

:toast: POST Showed 3.0 GHz and suppose that FSB is 800 ?
XP started just fine, but is there a way to see if something is overheating or something else going to fail ??

nothing else touched...
How to measure these improvements?

If there is sw for this - have you got links to it ? I'd be glad to try these.

BOY I'M GLAD that I got to read these forums and got perhaps an addiction here !!! ;)

AFamilyMan

BIOS corrupted....

hows that corrected ??

uhhh... it came alive again by itself - only EClock setting as set before but everything else at default value.

WHAT HAPPENED !?
Anybody know ?
:smileysex f-d by bios.

Is it the voltage that is too high (2.8) ?

AFamilyMan
06-04-2003, 11:58 PM
Ooohhh.... :toast:

Now everything OK !
2.4C@3000 on the air... nbfan winds like hell, but I don't know what to replace it with ?! Otherwise quite silent set.

Just memsettings had to be degraded to 2-6-3-3 and its running steady... couldn't get the Sapphire softmod working - 9500 ->9800 checkerboard - :slobber: oohh... at least Cat3.4 works fine nevertheless its around 2200 at 3D03.

What is the sw to tune the MHz's up ?? Or should I just shovel it to the muds backyard ?

Any suggestions ??
