I'm getting a new mobo and am trying to figure out is microsoft will let me install my XP OEM version on it. Everything else on the system will be the same.
Anyone know if the OEM license it attached to the mobo specifically, or will I be able to install this version on the new mobo.

There should be no problem...

Technically, it breaks the rules, but it's not like Bill Gates is going to personally show up at your house and force you to buy a new copy of XP. Microsoft shouldn't give you any trouble.

I do this all the time. If you have to call to get the numbers to unlock windows just tell them that your hard drive failed.

I just reinstall it. If it doesn't let you activate it right away, by the end of the 30 day period it has always let me activate it with the same CD key as I used before.

So you've never have to call them? I'll have to try that the next time I reformat.

Nope, not once. I have installed the XP 64-bit OEM on this computer I am on now (with 4 different motherboards,2 different types of RAM, a HD upgrade, and a graphics upgrade), and two of my dad's computers and I never once had to call in. It will always let me activate it through the internet like normal before the 30 days is up.
