Hi, well I'm new to this forum, and have a few questions on my new AMD OC system that I am building over the summer. The current rig that I built online for now costs $915.93 minus a video card, which I already have. Here is the specifications so far.
-eXcaliberPC.com

AMD Athlon XP2500+ 1.83GHZ 512 K 333MHz BARTON Processor (BOX) $102.00

Abit NF7-S V2.0 Motherboard $120.00

Vantec Tornado TD8038H Case Fan x 5 $75.00

Thermaltake A1357 SMART CASE FAN II Variable Fan Speed Control $52.00

Abit nForce2 BIOS (Deluxe) Survival Kit for NF7-S v2.0 Series $15.99

Abit Airflow Pro Pack *2xAPA24+1xAPF18) $19.99

Vantec Nexus Fan Controller NXP201-BK (Black) $25.00

Antec TrueBlue480 Power Supply with Blue LED Internal Illuminati $87.00

Western Digital 60GB 7200 RPM EIDE Hard Drive Model#WD600JB $86.00

-Newegg.com

SONY Black CD-RW Model CRX220E1 52x24x52 - OEM $49.00

Arctic Silver's NEW Premium Silver Polysynthetic Thermal Compound $6.99

Thermalright SLK-900U (Heatsink ONLY). $46.99

SONY 1.44MB 3.5 INCH INTERNAL FDD DRIVE BLACK - OEM $14.00

CORSAIR MEMORY XMS EXTREME MEMORY SPEED SERIES, LOW LATENCY 256 x2 $158.00

-Xoxide.com

Black X-Dreamer $64.99

Lighting: Blue Cold Cathode $15.99

Secondary Lighting: Blue 2nd Cathode $7.99

So I pretty much have everything that I would need, but would like some feedback on where I can improve. Also does anyone know a site that has multiplier settings, and voltage settigns for OCING my barton 2500? Im hoping to burn it in for a few weeks, then try and get it to 2.5 GHz. Also I think the ram I am purchasing might be a low spot too, so help me there the most ;). Well I guess this is a pretty long introduction to my time spent here on these forums. Thanks in advance, ChuNjeH.
Woops almost forgot, Im trying to stay under the $1000 range, and $1100 at most.

Not much to say other than it all looks good ! should have some great results, your memory certainlly isn't a week spot ! I think the Corsair XMS series is some of the best.

Actually, if you really want to go Xtreme on air cooling, I've heard of guys using P3 HSFs on their vid cards with great success.

ChuNjeH yea thats the way to go with p3 hs, I was at compusa last weekend and saw a thermaltake coper cooler for the TI series of cards, they also had a Zalman heat pipe (knock off) but I don't know if it is all hype or what.

Thats what I figure!

WELCOME TO THE XTREME ChuNjeH !!!

For graphics cooler I wouldnt go for the rThermal Take, theyre really whiny, make a racket and have been known to fail regulary.

Should I get 512MB Twinmos/Winbond (CH-5 chip) PC3200 CL2.5 184pin DDR400 DIMM (p/n XDC512)x2 instead of the Corsair XMS Low Latency pc3200 DdR? will i get better speesd and benchmark with which ram? also, can i add heatspreaders to the twinmos rams jsut for looks?

ChuNjeH, that 3200LL is great stuff. Had use of 2x256 for a while and it was some fast memory. The only thing that I might change would be your HD. Maybe bump up to one of the 8MB cache. There are a couple of good new drives out now. Looks like a great summer project.

ChuNjeH stick to the corsair.

ChuNjeH
05-28-2003, 07:12 PM
yeah, it is a 8mb cache it just isnt written there ;D yah i guess ill stick with the corsair. and also does anyone got a recommendation what i should do right after i get the 2500+ how much should i burn it in, and how much shuold i OC at max with the slk-900u with vantec tornado 92cm ? and also if i should upp the FSB oer the multiplier and how high i should have the voltage at maybe 2.4 2.5 ghz?

For those settings your keep talking about, it is simple trial and error multiplication.

It is multiplier x fsb = speed. ie: 166x10 = 1660. If you take the multi to 12, you add 166 to 1660.

Voltage is used to stabilize an overclock. With the setup you are looking at, I would not recommend (or think you need) more than 2v to get what you want.

I think your rig looks good. I would lose the Corsair in favor of some Twinmoss or Corsair 3500.

The new Swiftech rev2 mcx462+ is better than the slk900u, and Swiftech makes a much better quality heatsink than thermalright. It uses 92mm fans as well.

If i were to get corsari 3500, would I have to volt mod some on my mobo? i dont want to take any risks ie. flashign my bios ? ive heard that if i were to get the 3500 to work on my mobo, i would have to voltmod, could i do that with a program? i dont want to do anything physical but if its just out of the normal bios , ill go for it
