Hey all,

Long story short i managed to kill my XtremeDDR ram, so i went out and bought some kingmax PC3200, (it was the only ram the shop had cept 2100 stuff, and i can't be without my PC). Anyway this ram is krap. which i am sure most of you already know.

it does 166 @ 2.8v Ultra timings on the 8k9a2+
and only 185 @ 2.8v every thing set to the worst timings.

Surely it should be able to do better, I shouldn't have any problems RAing it cos it doesn't do what it specified for right?

Cheers

*EDIT* I should read more carefully.

Yes, you should take it back. Unless they can stick it in a computer and have it run ddr400 at SPD you should be able to RMA it.

Just a side note

What voltage should i run it at? any ideas of the MAX safe voltage?

If it's advertised PC3200, it should do 400mhz at stock voltage, 2.5v or 2.6v, which is what most RAM is advertised at except Geil and OCZ. If it can't even do 200mhz with increased voltage then it won't run at spec so you should RMA it.

Unless there's something about your system that is not right rather than the RAM...did you get the XDDR stick over 200mhz with nothing else changed? If so send it back.

And you normally dont want to go over 3v on your RAM but most of my sticks have gone to 3.2v and none have fried on me :)

well the Xtreme stuff got to 215Mhz with loose timings, so it is the ram.

Anyone know where i can get some good, cheap ram in Australia from?

mine KINGMAX is crap too, limits me to get this board to 195FSB, it doesnt do no where near DDR400 (the rated speed) as ive tried to run it async to test this but had a whole lotta stability problems, it doesnt cut the mustard at all, and it was expensive when i bought it

KingMax doesn't even obtain its rated speed !

I had a PC2700 KingMax that couldn't reach 160Mhz with strict timings @ CL2.5

the PC3200 has gotten bad reviews also.

Well the store let me trade it in for some HyperX 3200 stuff.

What volts should you run the hyperX at cos at the moment i can only run the ram at 180 2-2-2-6-1, 190MHz slack timings, this is at 2.9v

Maybe its my motherboard that is holding me back, any one know the best overclocking BIOS for the 8K9A2+? I have read that using the raid controler (which i am doing) makes in almost impossible to get above 180-190MHz.

Any ideas??

Divider to keep the PCI and AGP slots lower so you wont damage PCI devicxes? I dont know if that board has dividers.

Well i changed bios and i can now do the ultra timings at 195MHz however cos there is only a 1:5 devidier the AGP is corupting. poor me.

time to buy a new mobo i think

the nForce2 at PCI, agp locked right?
