I just finished a new build for a friend with a E6300 and a Gigabyte DS3 rev2 motherboard. I installed the latest sound drivers from GIgabytes site and sound seemed ok. I soon realized that only 2.1 was working in Vista. Winamp, Itunes, etc, all in 2.1 only, the rear channels and the center dont work. I went to the realtek control panel and checked to make sure it was on 5.1, and yup, 5.1. So i went to the Windows Control Panel to check for 5.1, and it was fine. I did the test, and it DOES work in the test with all 5.1 speakers. It also does get sound from all speakers when playing Flight Simulator X however im not sure if it is just stereo sound or true 5.1. I tried updating to the latest 1.6 codec drivers from the Realtek site, but nothing changed. I tried uninstalling the drivers and the realtek control panel, then allowed Vista to assign a driver to it and then i updated it from there with just the 1.6 driver only and no realtek control panel so that only windows was controlling the channels etc and still no dice. Nothing but 2.1 except during the test, or during a game. At all times i made sure that the settings were on 5.1 and the speakers are in fact plugged in correctly ;) Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated as im out of ideas.
