EA confimed that the demo will be released next week and include one tutorial mission, two single-player missions, one skirmish map, playable in 3 difficulty settings.

well not much info there , but we know that by end of next week we will have the demo for sure(if EA isnt bsing)

well this game is also for xbox 360, as someone who own a 360. RTS sux badly on 360. i played LOTR BFME 2 demo, and it was just horrible, the right stick is used as mouse, selecting single unit can be a pain the a4$. so is building a structure in a specific spot... annd no hotkey, everything is soo slow ...

i wonder how it will stack up against supreme commander? i love sc (i f only my pc could handle it better) but it will still get this because c&c brought me it the rts world (red alert) and i could go for some old school dirt farming:D

Fun at first but in the end gets boring like the rest, as for strategy I only hope Starcraft 2 would continue the success of his predecessor. ;)

I can't freaking wait! Dune II was fun, but C&C is what really got me into RTS back in '95.

I'm amazed at the cast they've got for the FMVs. Pretty astounding. People from "Battlestar Galactica", one from "House", one from "Lost" etc...

i wish i still ahd my copy of C&C kind of feel like playing right now...

its got to be around here somewhere.

Between this and supreme commander we might finnaly get some good rts action in here... warcraft 3 didnt really do it for me and niether did generals... i mean, both were good... but didn't hook me.

Edit - Muahhah found it, ive been playing since i made this post. XP compatibility mode FTW! I'm on the first mission with the commando. i wish there was a way to increase the resolution, the GUI is WAY too big for my screen.

Sounds great, can't wait to try out on mah Dual 5160 rig, hope its good for multicore.
Something bothers me about Supreme Commander. Virtually unlimited resources and army capacity kinda takes away the competitive edge. Hope CC has some level of control of how much u can build

AOE wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I've actually gone back to playing AOE2. The resource gathering was a step in the wrong direction for me.

I really hope C&C3 does well to compete with SupCom.

EA ruined it, generals sucked; I made the mistake of buying the new one (£30), the first decade, all C&C and RA's in it. All networking (Inc online) modes still didn't work, lots of bugs still, it's like they got the public patches off Google for the games to work on xp and quickly patched them and put them on the DVD and ripped everyone off. I use to have lots of fun and good memories back in 95-2000 playing C&C over my small little LAN with my brothers and dad ;p .

Bring back the original Westwood Studios that introduced RTS Games and painted the path for every other company doing RTS games since then.

it doesnt work because the netcode for XP is different.

the ones they released in the 10 year pack were exactly the same as the originals (which now that i searched them out, ive got em all. :))

I agree though it would be fun to play it online once agian.

Edit - i just logged into westwood chat and it seems to be working, i think it's just lan play and direct ip connections that wont work, im going to try hosting a game ill let you know if it works.

I really hope the guys at EA come through with this. From all the info I read in GI it sounds great and the screenshots look awesome. A lot of the guys from the original C&C team left though once EA took over so I hope it doesn't loose that C&C feel.

But they shoved them all on a DVD made some slight changes that are allrdy publicly available and got some gaming clan to host online play for a few of the old games, slapped a price on for £30+ and wolah people will buy and think EA should die. A random guy released a fixed dll for to allow online play on C&C 95 that semi worked with WW chat (didn’t for me) not ea.

I don't think generals is bad really, I have generals and the zero hour expansion. Only thing I don't like about it is some of the annoying bugs in the game like those rocket guys that somehow suddenly have longer range than anything else and shoot crazy fast. Those drive me insane.

I pre-ordered the C&C 3:Tiberium Wars Kane Edition, as long as I know this version comes with both version of C&C 3 Kane and the original.

I'm a huge RTS fan, my first games were Command & Conquer and Starcraft demos way back then. From then on I bought the entire line up, including Total Annihilation/Warcraft Series/ Command and conquer series/Age of Empire series/Empire Earth series/ Starcraft + Expansion etc... It's really hard to improve on these game formulas, the only successful game that has done it in last couple of years is Company of Heroes, I can't praise that game enough, it is absolutely amazing and what the RTS industry needed again other then churning age old repeats with the same boring old formula.

Hopefully CnC3 will keep the CnC feel (minus Generals) and not make it only about graphics.

At 9:15pm CST Sunday evening, the Fileplanet downloader just started downloading the demo. I'm not sure if this is a preload for later activation or the real thing. This is through paid subscription at Fileplanet.com. It's a 1.17gb file.

Update: It was just a preload awaiting activation key - hopefully Monday.

God people always knock Generals, it's a good game, Zero hour was pretty awesome. I fear it's one of those "it's cool to jump on the bandwagon and knock the game cause everyone else does" type of mentality.

I wonder if it wasn't made by EA, it would be as hated............

"C&C is officially back tomorrow as the demo for Command & Conquer 3 will be going live on our official site at www.commandandconquer.com AND EA LINK, as well as FilePlanet.com whom we know many of you have already pre- loaded with. Keep your eyes peeled on both sites for the moment the file is live, tomorrow is the day!

Going to be until at least 10AM PST time, no need to stay up all night.... "

The demo includes: two single player missions, a skirmish map, a tutorial mission and a live action cut scene!

Defeating infantry with tanks in the classic C&C way. Running them over.
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/5351/cc36tv8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The end of NOD.

I ran this on a 2.53 P4, 1GB ram, and with a 4200 Ti!!! (6800gt is RMA) All setting were at the highest, but I probably lost a lot of quality with the low shader support.

This is a skirmish by the way. I won in less than 7 minutes, so it's really fast paced.

My impressions are that this demo really is just like all the other C&Cs, but with better graphics and faster build times. I employed my old strategy of f*** infantry, build lots of harvesters, then tanks as fast as possible. If I find infantry just run it over, and watch my tanks blow up everything. The harvesters are still as dumb as ever, and still drive into enemy bases miles away to get tiberium if the local supply runs dry. Except now they aren't as tough as they used to be so they can't survive it anymore. There's still no auto-repair for buildings, which always annoyed my. It's a small thing, but it annoys me a little how buildings come out of the ground. They don't unfold or anything, they kinda just rise up in one whole piece. But, the fighting looks like it can get really crazy like all previous games, especially RA2. I really didn't see any sign of new innovative gameplay or anything. I know it was a demo, but the absence of stuff like the obelisk kind of alarmed me. I ran into a few stealth units in the campaign mission, but it seems that overall NOD now depends on massive numbers instead of finesse. The UI, music, and movies are all good and give the game a polished feel, but in my mind Supreme Commander is superior in a lot of ways. Too bad my PC runs SC so slow.

I'm not sure how this will pan out in the final release but at the moment the best tactics as I see it are pretty simple.

At the beginning turtle and build a ton of base defences: they kick infantry rush ass. Concentrate solely on getting mammoths, build 5. Railgun upgrades help to take care of infantry faster if you can't be bothered to go running them over. Kill enemy base.

At first I waited for my ion cannon to charge and lead my attack with that but I realised it just wasted time. A radar scan and bombing run are a good way to lead a fast attack.

The thing I noticed about nod is that its too easy to take out their entire base defences. Take out the hubs and all the turrets die and as mammoths make short work of those things its a bit too easy.

I do like the game and from what I've seen in this demo it does go back to classic CnC action rather than the watered down generals. I'll buy it but I hope the balance is better. Maybe its just the AI that is rubbish.

Starscream

Yea i didnt relise Grace was that skinny " the girl from galactica" she is like nothing but bones lol

Those are Minor defenses wait until you come accros the Real ones when the final game comes out. I havent played the orignall or tiberian sun in such a long time so i forgot there name im talkin about the scorpian looking laser's. The AI reminds me of the same AI from tiberian sun i doubt they even changed it. @ least its better then supreme commander that AI is as dumb as a door nail

i guess ur talking about the obelisk of light?

it is in the game. it only takes a while till they start building em.

in one of my games the AI had 2 complete bases one of them guarded amongst others by 2 obelisks :( wich kind of pwned half my tanks before i knew what happened.

the dmg output of the obelisks can b raised by hooking a certain tank up to them.

I doubt it's gonna change anything from the tradtional C&C RTS style. I'll admit after playing SupCom the zoom feature really spoiled me. I can't play a game like AOE3 now cause its so zoomed in... But C&C never fails to give u that sense of action and rush. hell if it's fast paced, then all the better. I like games that take about 1 min to get ur eco set and start churning out front lines... its better than playing a game where it takes 1 hour to get things set.

If anything that would be better about C&C 3 over SupCom is that
1) ppl will be able to play it with out a high end system.
2) C&C series barely has any sense of an eco management which means u can concentrate on churning out tanks and base defences.
3) hopefully the game lets u choose how much resource u start out with...
sup coms inability to do that means each games starts slowly to an eventual build up... i like to get into the action with strong units from the start. not in the late game...

Lastly guys dont make judgement on the game based on a demo. Lots of good games had bad demos... they aren't a reliable source

I just played a game of Sup Com today where everyone started with: 1 Land Factory, 4 Power Generators, and 4 Mass extractors. It actually was very cool (since everyone goes through the damn same phases of construction in the VERY beginning anyways, nub or expert).

Anyways, I played C&C3, thought it was fun, but I dare say that Sup Com and C&C3 really aren't that comparable. Resource development, allocation, and expenditure are completely different. C&C3 resource management is WAY easier than Sup Com, and faster. It's a faster paced game, but IMO Sup Com lends way to a more realistic style of gameplay. GFX are a little better in C&C3 than Generals, but not by much. I wouldn't even say that they are that much better than Sup Com. I was expecting something that would rival or best Company of Heroes...not even close. Sooo, I like the game, but honestly, I feel like I'm playing a sooped up expansion of Generals...oh well.

C&C is total win.

you can also change the tactics how the computer plays in skirmish... ctrl + alt + the letter you want (for example: t --> turtle)

Ok so I downloaded the demo, and also went out and finally bought SupCom, but at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, I must say that I personally liked SupCom better. For some reason I just didn't get the feeling of blowing your enemy to pieces when I was using 2 tanks and 10 foot soldiers. I'm new to RTS so that might be why but as of right now I think SupCom > C&C3.

SupCom is classified as a hardcore RTS type game. C&C is more or less the middle of the ground type where its easier to get into.

IMO Company of Heroes is the one that will be the better game. C&C will probably be the most popular. Supcom looks like a great game but there is just too much going on there. It is too big for me. COH is perfect in my opinion.
