View Full Version : what FSB does your reference 680i board top out at?

I have a E6400 and a BFG Tech 680i board and I am having troubles getting into windows (it hangs) past 412.5 (1650). I have tried a lot of things but nothing seems to work. Is this common - what are your results?

yeah that sounds about right.

but you need to crank your chipset voltages too and make sure you cpu and vdimm is up high enough, make sure your ram timings are correct.

and also a very quick search would have shown you that this baord has HUGE FSB holes, that you have to go past.

try running 1900 and see if it runs, but make sure you have proper voltages set.

BTW I had the processor stable at 3.6 orthos stable on my old P5B Deluxe Wifi board

yeah I have G.Skill HZ DDR2 1060 @ 5-5-5-14 2.125v it runs great at that speed

when I try high speeds should I max out the volts on the NB and SB? and the transport err... FSB link damnit I can't remember -uh VTT ?(?)

when I try to go high sometimes it hangs at post and sometimes at windows start - anyway to fix that

THANKS GUYS:toast:

437-455 doesnt work for me
458-470 does work at right settings/voltages (for me)
1833 fsb seems to be a sweet spot for me...dont know why
nb heat will kill your oc at high voltages unless you have good cooling on the nb
increasing cpuvtt helps
setting my nb to 1.5 or over doesnt help me because the nb gets too hot.i wood try setting 1.4 or 1.45v on nb if you havent already....depends wot cooling you have im only on air
if i had a waterblock on it im sure i could go higher.

it's much easier to get higher fsb on 965 chipset because it runs cooler.

ok 1650 works - 1700 allows me to get into windows w/o functionality and above that I freeze up on the windows loading screen. 1900 doesn't work even at 7 multi. Damnit:mad:

ive never had 1900 work either even at 7x :)

i have these settings:
1.2vht at auto (1.46 asusprobe)
sb 1.5 set (1.54 probe)
cpuvtt 1.5 set (1.57 probe)
nb set 1.45 (1.49 probe)

cpuvtt seems to be able to be set higher without affecting heat too much.

i wood be interested if you can set 1833 (at x8 multi)
@1.5v vcore (or lower depends wot your cpu needs...)....it worked for me; as your cpu seems capable of 3.6.....try at lower ram speed first then look for max ram speed??? anyway thats how i do it.

i can do 1900 fsb at 7x but only with lower ram speeds. 1950+ does not even boot for me....maybe at 6x but y botha with 6x?

I've got a benchmark stable 470Mhz FSB with an E6600 on the BFG 680i using a VapoLS.

Had to max out the SPP voltage and other HT to MCP voltage (or something) setting. Also used 1.3vFSB IIRC

i think the fsb wall or whatever is caused by the combination of chip and mobo.
my 1st crappy evga 680i has the same fsb holes and wall as my cross shipped rma. both had same top at 420 fsb and same holes as well

my eVGA 680i is bench stable at about 460-470MHz with an X6800 retail using x9 multi :)

Thanks guys!!!! :toast: So I lowered the NB and SB - set the VHT to auto then upped it from what it was setting it at. Then I upped the voltage a bit (will try to lower it) and set memory to 450 @ 4-4-4-12. But now I am going to need to get a vigor gaming TEC because I don't want to :bananal: it up by frying it.

3.6, 3.6, 3.6, 3.6, YEAH YEAH! :toast: :woot: LOOK->

I know that the voltages are not right on the nvidia panel as they don't move - any idea how to check real voltages on the reference boards? besides BIOS

Super PI /mod1.5 XS @ 3.6 (E6400) RAM - 450 @4-4-4-12 ===

yeah after an hour of testing I can't seem to get the higher speeds stable on my RAM - I mean getting into windows w/ higher RAM settings

did get a 16.141 Super PI/mod 1.5 XS score w/ 3.65GHz (1825 FSB) and RAM @ DDR2 912 4-4-4-12

Try raising the FSB by an incremental of 20. The board is reportedly changing straps at 1700 FSB (quad-pumped) so you might have trouble around there. On my system I can boot @1699 FSB any time but 1700 FSB is a hit or miss (more misses than hits).

Keep raising the FSB by 20, I can reliably boot up to 1920 FSB from 1720 FSB. (and below, of course) And up to 2080 FSB via ClockGen. Like someone said above, this board is very sensitive to various timings/voltages so higher voltages are not always better for overclocking. My sweet spot is 1.40~1.45V for SPP. I strongly recommend you measure the actual voltages for various parts on the board using a DMM.

I am not aware of where to measure voltages using a DMM on the 680i -except for my 7900GT where I know where the GPU and RAM voltage testing spots are. DMM - we ARE talking about a digital multimeter right? (SORRY 4 noobish question).

THANKS A LOT!!

yes 1700 (425) there is a strap...ram bandwidth drops for me at 1700...buggered if i can do 450x8...but i can do 458x8??????

You're not using vFSB of 1.5v are you? Is that one of the voltages that ntune is missreading? I wouldn't go over 1.4 myself, I found it caused instability.

SPPvoltage and HT(SPP-MCP)voltage are the ones you need.
