Hi all,

Just after getting my new rig up and running. Its a Abit IC7 and P4 2.6 800 FSB and 2 sticks of 256mb Corsair XMS PC3500.
Im just wondering whats a safe voltage to use on the P4 CPU's since I have never overclocked a Intel processor before. See my current overclock from the screenshot below. I'm using the 3/2 ram divider.

How much voltage can you use on these chips. I'm watercooled.

I'm useing 1.78V with Prometeia, not sure if it's safe or not.
No ill effects from it yet.

Well, unlike AMD setup's if your temp is low you could still be in danger. With an AMD rig typically with a decent WC setup you should be able to do quite a bit of voltage if your CPU temp is below 50C. With Intel chips, SNDS can occur anywhere over 1.75V (According to what most people I have talked to say. Some people do much more voltage than this and can run their rigs for many months on end with this OC, but be careful your chip could die at any time). I have no clue about the newer chips, but since no drastic changes were made to the chip itself, I would imagine they have the same danger point. I think if I were to use a P4 I would do 1.75 max (maybe even 1.725, but since you are water I would say 1.75 for you) for everyday use, while probably up to 1.8 for benching.

same here

my chip likes a tad past 1.80V even...
I'm not really worried. Intel boxed CPU's have excellent warranty :)

Yep, 1.82V Idle in windows, set at 1.775V in the bios, and officially 1.71V under load in windows.

This is on the Asus P4P800. I think the MSI is worse.

Currently I have my 2.8C on the Intel default cooler and are not daring to go above 1.68vcore.

This is 1.68load, it sits at 1.71idle. I have it set to 1.75 in bios and this is how much (little) it undervolts :)

When i pop her in the vapo Thursday, then Ill crank the vcore up to 1.75load, so that will be about 1.80 in bios :)

I wish someone had told me all of this a couple of days ago !!! hehe

This was my first P4, I've been running mine at 1.7 in bios and mbm and the asus probe show actual voltage at 1.72-1.78 depending on load.

It hasn't died yet but NOW I'm worried ! lol

Major, nah dont stress too much imo. :D

I used to run my old 'B' P4 chips up to about 1.80 even with default air cooling. Im just being a bit carefull with this new one :)

You have the asus yer so thats always going to overvolt a little. Just find a good combination of vcore and cpu MHz and leave it there!

Im finding that going from 1.63vcore (real) to 1.71vcore (real) I only get about 50-75mhz more in stability so Im just going to leave it at the current setting :)

ps
and you have watercooling so nah no need to worry...1.75vcore all the way baby!!!!:toast:

the P4C800 overvolts greatly dun they, Major ? ;) i had mine set @ 1.575v in bios and it sits idle @ 1.632v on ASUS Probe :p

not only the p4c800 does, my A7N8X gives me 1.74 volts too when I set 1.7 in bios :)
