I'm buying a new gaming rig and here's what I've been looking at:

E6600
Sunbeam Tuniq
eVGA 680i
2x1GB G.Skill DDR2-800 CL4 HK/PK
XFX 8800GTX
2x Seagate 320GB 16MB 7200.10 (RAID 0)
Stacker 830 Evolution / Stacker 832

a few extra bucks left that I can spend on changing something if it's wrong
I'm planning on buying another 88GTX sometime in the future so I need a PSU that can handle such a setup

some people told me these PSUs should be good and could hold a GTX SLI easily:
Corsair HX620W
Thermaltake ToughPower 600W

is that true? seems a bit unprobable to me...

Please help.

Thanks :)

no i think you need abou 800 watts fore sli, and 900 if your going to overclock it

Corsair, definitely... Thermaltake, probably. I think I'd go with the 700W Toughpower if considering Thermaltake. 800-900W is not necessary.

The Corsair is the better of the two units.

go for a 800w or above or chances are you will regret it.

Yeh your gona need at least a minimum of 800 out of a reliable PSU

What about SilverStone 750W and Thermaltake ToughPower 750W?

That is not correct. 12v power draw for the whole planned system is still below 40A. The Corsair 620W will handle that. So will the Silverstone 750W (I'm hoping you're asking about the Zeus model), and the Thermaltake 750W.

Yup. People overestimate wattage needs for PSU's so bad lately.

well I read a while ago in a few places that any PSU below 700W (including the HX620W) will have trouble with an 88GTX SLI rig, especially when overclocking.

and how come the only real 88GTX SLI certified PSUs all have atleast 750W?

Wasn't there a poster somewhat recently that had bought 2x 8800GTX's and had a good 650W PSU but ran into some troubles with stability and crashing?

Either way, if you're planning for SLI, I would personally go over 700W

I'd like to hear if anyone has had success running GTX's in SLI with the Corsair 620HX. I have been expecting mine to run the GTS's in SLI but the 8800 GTX is a different kind of animal.

My SS75ZF has quad rails, and right now Philly_Boy has it and is using it on a E6300 and GTX, nto sure if he is running SLI, but its a beast of a PSU.

I did a lot of reading before I bought it, but I have no complaints. I have 8800GTS in SLI.

700W is more than enough LOL. People overestimate WAY too much. Spawne32 bought a 700W psu for a system that uses a little over 200W LOL. Sorry, I had to give an example. My system draws just 300W but I have a 500W PSU:P I overestimated when I bought it :P but it'll last into future upgrades...

I went with the 750W SS75zf because if it holds true, it will last me for quite a while to come, and I plan to keep it for at least two years.
