I need some help with my PC situation right now...
My status is that I have stopped gaming (will get into it perhaps again), and i require a fast PC for work (CAD design, music, etc).
What I have here at the moment is:
AMD system in sig (3500+, DFI nF4, 1GB RAM, Geforce 6800)
AMD system 2 (Opteron 144 (does like 2.6-2.8 stable), DFI Expert, 1GB RAM, Geforce 6800)
Notebook - Dell Precision M70
Lately, my only stable PC has been the Dell lappy... as I've been testing stuff on the other two (reinstalls, Ocing, GPU testing, etc, etc.).
Now, I would like to have a normal desktop PC again, or a laptop with a dock. I also have 4 WD Raptors which I would like to use.
My goals therefore are:
1) Have a stable silent PC, hooked up to my normal monitor, etc (I'd like it to be whisper silent)
2) Use my 4 Raptors
3) Have a fast PC (fast windows load, etc).
Now, I've drawn up some options...
1) I could put together either of the AMD systems... they are a bit on the slow side compared to Core 2 Duo... and I'd have to get some new heatsinks, maybe a more silent PSU, etc.
2) I could get a docking station for my lappy, so I can hook it up to my desktop system... wipe the HDD, have only windows on it... and then make another (silent) PC, which would act as a NAS with my 4 WD Raptors, over Gigabit ethernet
3) Build a new PC. Core 2 Duo E6300, Asus P5b, 1GB Ram, 4 WD Raptors, MSI Heatpipe 7950 GT, nice case, Corsair HX PSU...
4) Get a Mac (either with a port replicator, or a desktop system), and install my Raptors in that (wouldn't mind getting my apps again)
Opinions? Ideas? Everything welcome!
