View Full Version : Playing 1.6 CS! I need it for FREE!

Hey guys!

Does anyone know how i can get old 1.6 CS on my comp? I have the Newest Steam installed w/ HL2 (i bought the game so i have the CD/Key)

I don't want to have to buy it cause my friend just downloaded it and played.

I dl'ed a 1.6 but it didn't seem to put anything on there, it added Counter-Stirke (not Source) to my games list but it says i have to purchase.

I also have a 64bit CPU and its Dual-Core, will this pose a problem?

Well, you cant get it for "free",it has to be purchased and activited with a serial Key. You could try and find Half Life 1 or Blue Shift; both are very inexpensive, probably under $10..

Does the HL1\BS Keys work for CS? I bought both games, but the cds didn't seem to include CS...

huh thats weird. steam must've gimped the cdkeys then. before any hl cdkey would automaticly include everything.

If you have a HL1 disk or HL1 CD-Key yes.

If you just need one let me know I have about 10 unused accounts with CS on them.

*Update* wow those accounts went fast, no more to give away guys sorry.

it used to depend if you can CS:retail or CS:mod, the mod version you had to use your HL1 key for and CS:retail came with a CD key.

to be honest its best just to buy the big gold pack, costs about 5-10 pounds (UK) and will do you just fine, it contains HL1, CS and the odd add on i think :)

arrrr i remember when the first introduced steam, that was a pain at the time, especially as i was on 56k (ouch!)
i dont mind it now though.
it works, is easy to use and still lets me play that lovely 1.6 ive loved so much since....ppffff must be about 1.4-1.5 i started playing :D:D:D

btw steam discontinued the 'classic stam catalogue' which included basicly every hl1 engine game.
also, when u buy hl2 u no longer get cs source for free -wat kind of bull is that?
i bought hl2 for $20USD in 2004/2005 and got CS source with it.

MaxxxRacer bought it for ~$40 wen it was released, he got the slightyl better (bronze?) version that included day of defeat source

now each game is liek $20. Meh
