Numberpad-Like Gamepad For PCs? Ever see one?

:mad: I've always used the numberpad when playing any game, but I have to slide the keyboard to the left so I can do it without bending my left hand to the right near the mouse. I hate having to play this way. Isn't there a game control pad or a number pad that’s nearly identical to the way a numberpad is organized? By this I mean a straight line of 5 buttons or more long (up and down) and 4 or more buttons across, but with more buttons for gaming. :)

I compared a picture of the Wolfking gaming keyboard pad to the number pad on a standard keyboard and noticed some differences that I know I'd totally hate. Good idea on their part though... but those long keyes in the middle kinda screw it up by leaving out three important keys as a result. (The ones I use for strafe left, strafe right, and reverse)

The way I usually have it set up:
0 - Duck
Del - Toggle run/fast walk
1 - Strafe left
2 - Reverse/backwards
3 - Strafe right
4 - Lean left
5 - Forward (default speed)
6 - Lean right
7 - Toggle creep/slow walk
8 - Jump
9 - Special function
/ - Use/Interact
* - Flashlight
- - Drop/release/throw down weapon/object
+ - Change fire setting
Enter - Prone

Then I also use the arrow keys, and the Insert, Home, PgUP, Delete, End, and PGDN keys for other things like going into the menu, using tools, special equipment, grenades, etc.

The Wolfking would have been perfect if they hadn't cut out those 3 keys I need. :mad: I was just about to order it when I noticed the problem too. :(

I actually did see an assignable keybad that looked almost exactly like a numberpad with no lables on the buttons. It looked like clearish wite plastic I think. It might have been lighted. I don't remember. I would love to find that product!

Can anyone help me out with finding a gamepad like anything I've mentioned?

Also look for CAD keypads, they usually are programmable or you can set each key to do different keystrokes/key combos/etc.

Not sure what u r on about??

But given that the pads I mentioned are programmable it doesn't really matter what keys they emulate. The n52 has 17 keys and a dpad which is ideal for menu nav. Cant think of many games where you need more, and if u do it has 3 shift states.

Alternatively use wasd, u then have easy reach to 80 odd keys or more

Yeah, I know. Its really difficult to find something like this. Also those controller pads with the flat shaped rubber buttons are trash. The best ones have the traditional plastic keys.

But what really confuses me is how are users of these gaming keypads, playing games with half the keys missing? There's probably twice as many critical functions you have to use in most games than any of these keypads support... what a waste of money. And those axis keypads suck for gaming... thats the whole reason I got into PC gaming years ago. The only decent gaming keypad is that WolfKing, but like I said they cut out a row of buttons I need.... which was a real let down. I was really excited when I found that keypad. :(

Well, perhaps it was the way I worded my first explanation. We all think differently and come from different walks of life, and something that sounds obvious as one thing to someone, may sound as something completely different to someone else. I'll try again. No hard feelings I hope? :)

I cannot play a game using the letter keys. They feel incredibly awkward to me the way they don't line up and I cannot get used to them, which causes me to play badly. But I am very comfortable using keys that are laid out so they are straight up and down like the number pad, in straight vertical and horizontal lines. So Im looking for something set up so that the keys are laid out in straight up and down lines, unlike the letter keys, but with more keys than a number pad; at least 26 to 30 keys. And if the keys on the number pad are seperated into different groups, then the largest concentration of them must be a group of 5 keys up by 4 keys across like the numberpad.

Its difficult for me to understand why something like this is so difficult to find, and when you do they are SO expensive! With all the different uses for keypads like this including CAD, scientifc and industrial work with special equiptment requiring a simple keypad like this, design and modeling work where a keypad like this would be a great way to enhance productivity, and of course gaming... there has to be something like this that doesn't cost a bloody fortune!

I read a few user reviews about the Wolfking... and they say that it feels awkward at first, but they soon got used to it and now they love it. I found it at Microtech cheap. Think I should get it or... are they not a trustworthy store? I've never heard of them.

I've been using the Nostromo n52 and I like it.. that WolfKing thing looks cool tho.. anyone has both so he can give a comparison??

Personally, the n52 has been good to me.. one of the buttons started to stick after 2yrs, but then started working fine.. keys are of the harder brew, esp. when you first get it you have to push em pretty strong.. also the D-pad on the side is perfect, your thumb would hardly ever be able to press that many buttons that easy on any other design (=design that does not have the thumb keys vertical to the rest of the pad).. I usually put weapons on the D-Pad, or grenades, the key below it is always crouch.. 21 keys total.. I never use the shift modes, if I did there would be 63 mapable keys.. 21 or 63, I believe either is plenty for any fps.. when paired with logitech Mx500 or Mx518 8-button mouse :fact:
