View Full Version : 8800gtx memory overclocking=poorer scores?

Ive noticed with a few benchmarks such as 3dmark06 and Aquamark that overclocking the memory can actually give lower scores. e.g. setting the memory at 1000MHz yields better scores than @ 1030MHz and that is on every run so its not coincidence.

is this a known thing?
are there set points on the memory clocks that give better performance?
are these known and what are they?

are there any set points on the core clocks either such as the 7800 had?

also what are the tweaks you guys are using for 3dmark scores as I use none and dont know any?

means you're throttling or at the max of your memory.. just clock it down a bit until you regain that performance :)

not sure on 8800GTX but 8800GTS has set core GPU clocks such as 621mhz and 648mhz and 675mhz, nothing in between heh

thanks master. :p:

edit: but if im near the max, if I voltmod will I be able to clock higher and get better performance or is that now a waste of time?

vmem looks easy enough but my equipment and skills arent good enough to solder to small components as I found it while trying to vdroop mod the P5B-D.:slap:

yes it does have these poins it seems. 621 is faster than 610 or 630.
also I found 975 on the memory is faster than anything between 985-1020MHz. this is bloody wierd to say the least.

Your ram is probably maxed/overheating. Had this happen last night when I was messing with my x800 and CSS. 600 ram = 96 fps and artifacts, 570 ram = 101 fps and clean.

i had similar things happen with almost every card ive played with. a GForce FX5200, 9600XT, 6800GT, I havent seen it yet because using coolbits, i cant get this things mem any higher, i need a diff OC program..

although I think its something else on the 8800gtx. because I doubt the ram is any hotter at 985 than 975 and all the way up to 1020 there are still no artifacts yet every run over 975 produces a lower score. will be watercooling it soon and adding ramsinks(with a 120mm low cfm fan over them). will see then if it will run faster at 1020MHz proving the issue is heat related.

pumbertot how did this go? I am interested in your results. :)
