This guy's post from the creative forum basically describes my issue though he managed to omit something...
Been trying to resolve this problem for a couple days and thought I'd ask here. I've done a clean boot and reinstall of the drivers as told in the FAQ, and used the latest drivers from the website.
I just got the game Company of Heroes a couple days ago, and am experiencing a strange problem with sound. About 10 minutes into playing the game, all sound cuts out and is replaced with a high pitched noise like a hearing test at the doctors office, and I need to reboot the computer completely to get sound back. This only happens in this one game. I can play HL2 for 3 hours straight without any sound issues.
I'm hoping it's not a power issue, as my computer only has a 500 watt power supply. Specs are:
E6400 C2D Processor
2x 256 MB GeForce 7900 GT in SLI
250 MB SATA HD
SB X-Fi ExtremeMusic in Game Mode
Considering the rather punishing requirements for CoH as compared to HL2 or any other game I have, I hope it doesn't mean all the components are trying to access more power. Anyone have any ideas for this? The computer is brand new.
Here is the thread:http://forums.creative.com/creativel...d=76653#M76653
The thing he didn't mention and I dunno if that happens to him as well but the screen goes blank.
So basically I get a blank screen and a high pitched noise through the speakers so I effectively have to hard reboot.
My system is an IC7-G overclocked to 3.6ghz 1:1.
The system primes and memtests fine but I have a feeling my PSU is at fault but I dunno. I have an audigy 2ZS sound card as well so thats also different from that guys.
Correction: I have an Antec True 480 watt PSU and iirc the system was drawing 280watts,400VA according to Kil-a-watt.
IC7-G P4 2.8C@3.6ghz, same issue occured at 3.5ghz but less frequently
System is prime and mem stable from what I know
PSU may be issue but a 480 watt PSU would appear to be enough..
Overclocking the video card appears to exacerbate the issue.
