Thought you guys might like this, maybe make some recommendations. Its constructed of parts entirely from 80/20. Its currently being developed by me and my local 80/20 distributor. Hopefully I can get some 3D model shots up soon and then some pictures of the real deal.

*UPDATE*

What do you guys think of this? Website forthcoming.

I would buy this in a heartbeat.
I have been looking for something like this for awhile.

I should have mentioned I am making this as a prototype for a mass-produced version/kit. This happens to be the most extreme of my designs thus far. It doesn't show it but the lock for the door will be activated by the RFID tag implanted in my hand.

Basic features will eventually include centralized water-cooling and built in 19" rack for rackmounted hardware amongst a laundry list of other things.

I built a similar desk with only a single level in 2005 out of wood and MDF.

...

It's nice, but you need *a lot* of room for it. I mean heck, if you have that much room sitting somewhere in your house you might as well just turn the whole room into an office instead...

Well this is the largest variant, though technically I could scale it down fairly easily. Most of my other designs aren't so extreme (but this is XS right?:D ). I should mention for those not familiar with 80/20 that its actually t-slotted extruded aluminum that you more or less put together like an erector set. Its very durable and even vibration proof if assembled correctly. Heres the site (http://www.8020.net/) if you want to check it out.

The wood version of this was 9 1/2 feet in diameter, this one is right at 11 1/4, I will try and dig up my pictures of it. I called my local distributor (which is luckily 20 minutes away) and im waiting for them to call back. I will be able to quote a price to you guys soon after. I will be ordering all the pieces and assembling it when my taxes come in :)

Heres the pictures of the first prototype. Some of you here might remember this project. Truth be told I was very unhappy with the wood/MDF combination as it didnt handle heavy equipment well and was very prone to vibration. Currently the desk in these pictures is a shadow of its former self, I use 1/4th of it as a desk currently as I anticipate construction of the new one. All of the water-cooling has been detached and will be getting re-used on the new desk. This time it will be mounted inside a modular block that I can remove if need be, more on this later since I will need help figure out what I want to do with it.

Making what you see below was ultimately satisfying (and expensive) but in the end I was not truly happy with the results. The new design is a huge leap in building a truly 'ultimate' environment.

Yes that is me, the car in the background was also mine.

Wow, that's amazing. What are those cylinders on top of the desk? Also, what is that circuit board looking thing on the second to last picture?

Those cylinders are blowers that are vented through the radiators. The circuit board is actually the back of the control panel, I will post a picture of the top of it in a bit.

Having dealt some with the T-slot parts you're looking at, I think after you buy it all, the desk will be worth more than the car. Also, look into some quick-nuts for the desk, using the normal rectangular t-nuts is annoying when you get things 90% done and forgot you needed another t-nut, in the middle of a beam. :)

Little update, the design company helping me translate everything into AutoCAD is a bit behind. I am currently in Maine out here building a new Best Buy but im spending my off time designing various desk models and building the website. This desk is now the flagship model of ADS, Its model is Bunker and its series is Monolith+. I will have a breakdown of all the series and models soon. Don't forget to check out my proposal for the electrical module here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=136203).

When the site is done I will be announcing a contest of sorts for idea submissions. More details on that as things develop.
