Hey guys I'm in the process of setting up my P4C800.

I took the hs off the NB and the die on it is real small, maybe 1/2" x 1/2" . I had thought about using some AS3 to attach a MCW50 to it but not sure if that would be "safe". Do you think it will be ok with such a small surface area ? If you haven't seen the set up there are no mounting holes on the CW boards.

or

Would you just use the passive hs and some AS3 ? I've looked at using a small p3 hs I have but no way to mount it either.

Suggestions, ideas, or comments ??

I would use an AS epoxy/ ASIII mixture to adhere an active NB cooler it. The NB does not seem to get too warm, and a simple active NB cooler would do fine. The AS epoxy diluted with 1/3 AS III makes a great bond, but is easily removable.

Another idea might be to order up an Abit (or other brand) active NB cooler that fits the mounting hooks on the motherboard, as these hooks are standard Intel spec. Excaliber PC may have them as they carry a bunch of Abit spare parts.

thanks for the input mdzcpa !

do you think that the MCW50 would be too heavy to epoxy down ??

Water cooling the CW NB overkill ya think ??

Well, here at XS, water cooling the NB is never considered over kill:D That said, I don't think it would provide enough benefit for the trouble IMOHO. That NB die is aweful small for contact surface and I doubt anything less than 100% epoxy would be strong enough to hold the weight of the MCW50. Even 100% epoxt may not hold.

if you could manage a way to get the MCW50 on there easily, I'd think it would be a good idea. But that will be pretty tricky methinks.

I've got hs on ALL of the mosfets on the board (13) the sb (better than the stock nb !hehe) the PLL chip, the promise chip, and the via chip just south of the sb (I don't even know what it does) so I might as well go all the way with water on the nb.

hey deeznuts,

yep I looked at the thermaltake. I have a fan I could mount on the stock hs but I really want to use water.

I've figured out how to mount my MCW50 on it. I used some hot glue in four of the corners of the water block (not on the core) and AS3 epoxy mixed with regular AS3 on the core. I'm going to let that cure for an hour and see how secure it is.

thank for the reply ! ;)

Well the AS3 epoxy didn't hold, just a little pressure and the water block came right off. This is what I came up with.

up and going now ! didn't do a fresh install yet I will tomorrow so I havn't started benching or even chaning any settings in bios yet Just booted up so far.

I couldn't use the clamp setup with the nb, my ramsinks interfered with it on my R9800pro (didn't plan ahead) so I ended up useing AS3 epoxy after all, this time without the regular AS3 mixed in, and I was able to get some good pressure on it to cure with the rig I had made. so all is good !!!!
