I was wondering what you guys are getting out of the 2800+ sempron 64's on air cooling? On dice? Thanks, responses are appreciated.

Do you mean for socket 754 or Am2. I´m getting a 754 2800+ hoppfully tomorrow and I will test overclocking on a DFI board.

754. For $30 I can't see how you could go wrong.

2ghz should be easy try 240X8 that gives you 1.9ghz if that works go 245X8 even cheapo boards should let you get that high

BTW what mobo are you using

i say MOST but not all chips SHOULD hit atleast 2.3 ghz. but you never know you could hit 2.9 ghz. semprons are pretty good for air cuz they are low power consumption. i had a 3000+ sempron that did 2.3 @ 1.552 ( according to cpu-z) it was prime stable too for atleast 6 hrs, but i wanted to play css so i cut it off. only thing i can say, is watch ur ram stability and don't over do the v.core cuz sometimes that just makes more heat and does nothing for stability.

I have a S754 2800+ sempron that clocks to 2.4gig on the stock HSF with default vcore at 1.35V.

i have a E6 Venice Sempron 2600+ @ 2.55GHz. Would do higher but the ram is crapping out at 210MHz. Need some DDR 500 stix.

I benched my Sempron64 2800+ at ~2920MHz
I may have hit 3GHz, but the vcore was getting already too high.
i used DFI NF3 lanparty

Sempron is Easy to clock. They like to go high:D

The biggest thing that may hold your back is Your Mobo and Ram.
As far as clocking go i reached 2,6ghz easily on stock heatsink with a 1,6ghz Sempron2800+

Have fun:toast:

Are there any decent OC-able mobos for cheap? I don't know much as I still have never build a system yet. Ive been wanting to build one for two years and finally my parts will be here on wednesday.
Since I dont have alot of cash, my build is
Intel Celeron 336 LGA775
BIOSTAR P4M800 Mobo
2x512mb 184pin DDR Corsair

I know its not much but it is my first build and its beats the heck out my my 5 year old crap box right now.

After I get some more cash I want to build a budget OCing system. I just need to know what is a cheap OCable socket 754 board. I was just wondering what these semprons are capable of.

Any Nf3 chipset should do the trick, but that wont help much if the bios on the motherboard has bad options.

As an example of this i can mention Asus k8n. Its a great Motherboard but the Bios is locked at 300htt meaning that for an 8x multiplier cpu as the 2800+ the highest you come is 2,4ghz:(

The highest i come was with a Msi k8n Neo. It reached 2,6ghz++ , but im sure i could have gone higher with it if i had the time.

And last
Buy Openbox item
You can save a lot of money that way
Who needs the manual and those stupids cd anyway:p:

I had 5 Sempron 2800+'s,and 2 3000+ Semprons. All but one (Winchester based)Sempron ran easily at 2.6GHz on air. You will need to supply them with volts though.

Here is one screenshot I saved in photobucket.

Tforce6100 is a very nice "budget" board, the two ive used hit 325 easy.

The Sempron should do well, just needs some good memory or a BIG divider.

From the couple of s754 Semprons I've played with, I wouldn't recommened anything else at the low-end of the market:
(Though as mentioned, a decent mobo is perhaps more important than with normal A64 chips due to mem controller issues and the lust for volts:stick:)

Mate's 2800+ hit ~2400 on about 1.45v (only 0.05v above stock) and never went above 50c on a stock X2 cooler w/Zalman 80mm

My 3100+ was an original .90 Sempron: No x64 instructions..
Hit ~2600 on 1.45v.. Again, never saw the high side of 50c
Powered many a BF2 session with the old 6800gt nicely, even at stock.

I got mine to 2650 on stock air and volts, would like to push it farther my mobo won't do any higher bus speeds =/
