My Maxthon 1.5.9 (basically it's a IE6 with better interface, it uses IE's cookie folder) won't save cookies for certain forums. When I log in to a forum, I stay log in for a few minutes, if I don't do anything, I'll be logged out when I click to another page. If I open up the cookies with notepad, how can I edit it so that the cookies will be permanent (make it not expire)? Thanks.

Are you sure you really want to manually edit the cookies from a text editor? It might be easier to download one of the "cookie viewer/editors" that are floating around the net (just do a google for "cookie editor").

Editing the expiration timer is a bleeding nightmare as it doesn't correspond to any human chronological value but rather some whack-ass unit of measurement. As I understand it, a "whack-ass unit" equals 429.4967296 seconds with around 73426 "whack-ass units" in a year. Apparently the "cookie clock" also begins at sometime around 1600 A.D, so you'll have to figure forward from there. So to jerk around with the expiration values you are going to have to convert these numbers... from a bizzare zero reference no less.

Still want to directly edit those cookies? Then you might want go go to this page (http://web.archive.org/web/20050311100531/http://www.littlepiggy.net/cookies/ie6.php) which explains all of this far better than I.

Though, honestly, I think your time would be better invested in discovering how to make the browser do what you want it to do rather than doing the browser's job for it. There's got to be a reason those cookies are expiring so soon.

As a dumb first suggestion, did you check the "remember me" box on the login page? Mine were timing out until I did this (duh! for me :wierd: ).

Thanks for the reply. I definitely checked the Remember Me box when I log in. This just started happening recently. I did a full virus scan yesterday, there a few trojans, nothing big, and I got them deleted. But the borwser is still doing the same thing. I tried IE, it does the same thing. But FF is fine. I don't want to use FF tho. I guess I'll try to figure out the whack ass units when I get home, if that doesn't work, I'll look for a cookie editor. Thanks again.

Hmm, your remark about this happening recently has me wondering if there was some change with the XS servers. Was this about a week ago? I was doing fine for a while, then all of a sudden my sessions started timing out, but like you, only when I visited certain forums.

For me going back and checking the "remember me" box fixed the issue. Though, during this time I was checking/unchecking/rechecking doing a lot of reloading, etc.

Something is weird. Have you tried deleting all of your cookies and starting clean? If you haven't I have a hunch that'll clear you up.

It's not just for this forums, a few other forums that I frequent are also having this problem. I tried clearing out the cookies from the internet options. Maybe I'll try deleting the cookie folder entirely and re-create it. Thanks for the info.

I give up. I tried manually editing the dates in the cookie files, it still doesn't work. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep logging in when needed. I'll reformat my comp when I have time. I want to try Vista anyways.
