Someone recommend me a newer multi-player FPS game.

I used to play RTCW pretty hardcore so I'd love to get back into the action again. And please, not Battlefield.

Also looking for something FPS online.
Tried CS:S?

Not really interested in CS either. Something new, and a lot of fun to play solo or team. Something a little more "up to date" than my old RTCW

I know exactly what you mean.. I've also been looking for something new and online to test out my SLI.... how about fear?

FEAR is a consideration. I would like something with team objectives also though, and not just the usual deathmatch and capture the flag. I might try it just for the SP when I get a new video card.

I like CS:S and CoD2. CoD2 is way more graphically intense, CS:S won't push your SLI setup very hard.

I'm looking at RS: Vegas and CoD2. They both look good.

Is CoD3 coming to PC?

Has anyone played both DoD:S and CoD2 that can comment on which they liked better? I watched gameplay videos of CoD2 and the experience is just awesome. It looks like they really nailed the sounds, visuals and gameplay that pretty much puts you as close to WWII as you'd want to get.

dod:s is much better than CoD2. CoD2 has a pretty fun single player campaign, but if you've played the original cod, then cod2 wont be as fun. plus the multiplayer for cod2 is awful. just people jumping around lobbing brenades over walls.

dod:s is the best :D

Considering I have BF2 retail box sitting here, I may give it a try. It was given to me by a friend. For no money it could provide some entertainment, and maybe I'll be surprised at how good it is. I played the first one so I know where it needed work. I still want CoD2 though.

I know I should have played these already but I missed the boat on them. I only have so much time to play so I have to pick and choose wisely what games ultimately earn my time and my HD space. I'm going to install BF2 tonight but I'm not expecting to be able to run high quality settings at 1680x1050 (22") until I get ahold of one of those 8800GTS 320mb cards.

Heck, I just played/finished Doom 3 at the end of last year, so I'm trying to catch up

Wow the update to 1.41 took awhile...

It's also gonna take a bit to learn the sea of controls...also gotta get this game working in widescreen.

Ok despite everything I read about this game not working well in widescreen, it worked for me right out of the box. Even though I selected 1360x1024 it is running at 1680x1050. I am not sure how or why, but I won't complain. It also runs extremely fast with all settings on high with only my X800XL. It will take some getting used to the controls though, it doesn't feel quite right yet.

I forgot where I found the info on widescreen for BF2, but I remember you had to enter it in at the console, I have a 32" norcent tv that I use as my monitor, max rex is 1366x768 so bf2 runs in 1024 for me. BF2 is an incredibly addicting game for me, collecting all the awards, ribbons, and badges, but I am a combat medic so maybe shiny stuff just amuses me that much ;)

I just patched to 1.41 right after I installed the game, set the res to 1360x1024 and its running at 1680x1050. I didn't have to do anything with the console.

And why can't I set crouch to Insert (keypad 0)? No matter what I try the key sets in the controls but doesn't work in game...

that is some buggy stuff, you might want to get on one of those sites, I'm sure some one has dealt with the same issues.
I don't have widescreen options on mine, not sure why. It'd be great if it did though.

R6V is a great game. It will push your card to the limit.
Actually, It doesn't support the x800... sorry.

Battlefield 2.

You have to play it at least a few hours to get into it. Not to mention, if you play for a clan you will be checking your stats almost daily :p:

It's pretty fun so far, getting the hang of the single player maps first.

My impression is that its basically BF1942 all over again, with a different graphics engine. It plays and feels the same. I haven't found that tight gunplay action that my RTCW had, but I shouldn't expect to. And the AI is absolutely retarded, 99% of the time. It gets better as you go though, and I've learned you need a lot more than 16 players to make things interesting.

It is similar to 1942 in some aspects, but in others its a whole new level.

For example, its no longer easy to remain hidden because the UAVs and the "spotted" just pick your location up and track you. Meaning that it is pretty impossible to hide and remain hidden unless your commander sucks and your team doesn't help.

But the whole squads aspect is just mind blowing in terms of intensity and adrenaline. Especially if you try out no vehicle servers with good maps (jalalabad and karkand) you will realize that if medics, support, engineers don't do their job, the team falls apart. And if you have a good squad leader.. he will keep you alive as well as help accomplish objectives. A lot of people make squads up just so they have access to commander equip requests.

But the only downside is most servers do not have randmizing teams enabled. Meaning that sides are switch, and the good people tend to care about their score and eventually all switch to one team.. so you get one team getting constantly overrun and even if they have skill it doesn't show. But that makes it all the more challanging for someone who is good to try and save the team (its almost impossible, but with some effort teams improve).

Servers that randomize and swap sides every round allow for much more even skill level overall.

Check www.bf2s.com to find out how you are doing.

R6 Vegas is decent. However, there is a SEVERE lack of support from Ubisoft...and infact, it looks like they may even officially drop support.

There is a lot problems with it that people are experiencing. (Though I have few gripes myself.) The general consensus is that its a poor port from the XBOX version.

It also does not support SLI, Widescreen or video cards that dont have Pixel Shader 3. Not worth 50 bucks, but if you can find it for less....it aint too bad.

YMMV

Yeah I intend to try that next. The gunplay in BF2 is just wierd, it isn't there for me. Fun otherwise though, I feel like I "fit in" with the Medic class after playing RTCW so much.
