Greetings,
I suspect this has been covered, possibly to death, but being new to this forum I am forced to ask another NUB question.
Having recently upgraded a few things on my system, specifically RAM and CPU and Video Card, I have been having some restart and hang issues I suspect are caused by the 300w PSU being insufficient.
The question is, since I can't afford to do it right by buying a proper 600w PSU are there any serious hazards from just picking up another cheap 300w PSU and using one for the MOBO, VidCard, and the other for the drives?
Obviously the case is going to be open and stuff hanging out everywhere, but would it work?
Thanks!!

i think no
if your psu is sick, and the psu doesn t deliver enough power during a few moment , only half pc will run correctly
i may be funny, but not efficient
you have small 400 w psu for 50 $ ...

You don't need a 600W PSU for your system in your sig. My system in my sig ran on a 550W Antec without a problem (until the stupid Antec failed, defective unit).
I would get an Enhance ENP-5140GH (http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PS-E5140GH&c=fr&pid=155594a7fe8d70d01a72a9b24d493f2fcf46ddd079d03e 0f722b5ddabf9f2d2b) 400W for your system. That link is found through Froogle which saved about a buck and a half.

Get an Enhance 400watt (mentioned above) or 500watt (for some future wiggle room). They are between $50 and $70, better than just about anything else in that price range. That is the better choice than running dual PSU's.
As for you question, yes it would work. It would be loud, inefficient, and a big mess...but it would work. I would just go with the above option.

... I am currently without job and cannot afford those prices at this time. I have another case with an unknown quality PSU in it and was going to try the quicky swap/mating for "proof of concept" before shelling even the 10 bucks for something horrible(read as CHEAP) from the CompUSA that is across the way...
Thanks again for the replies!!
I am going to do it to see if it will make any difference. If it doesn't, I am back to having a horribly unstable system for no apparent reason...

Depends on which 300w PSU it is tbh, your sig for your system doesn't look like it would stress a good quality 300w PSU. Have you searched the forum for your mobo to see if others have reported similar issues?

IAmATeaf,
Thanks for the reply. I have searched and found nothing similar. The quality of the PSU in the case is basically non-existant. The system was 100% rock steady until the memory and CPU upgrades. I did find out that the memory is NOT all DDR400 but a mix of two each DDR400 and DDR266. But even that shouldn't destabilize an otherwise happy system I wouldn't think. The video card was swapped for another 5200 but the problem was still prevalent.
I guess I am just going to have to start saving my dimes as well as my pennies in the hopes of getting better gear all together. I have become quite addicted to FSX and will be banging my head for the foresable future...
Thanks again!!

Well a mix of RAM in theory should make the memory run at the slowest speed ie 266, you could try taking the DDR266 RAM out first, run the system, then try with the DDR400 RAM out and put back the DDR266 to see if the behaviour changes.

Just had another thought, if the PSU you have is from a big top tier manufacturer then if it says 300w then it'll be good for 300w not like the cheapy 1's you can get that say 500w but then strain to supply even 350w so is the PSU from a well known manufacturer?

'Teaf,
The psu is a generic asian cheapy in a generic asian case. The case is from a PDX local clone vendor called CTL. So, I doubt it is even close to "quality" in any way let alone TOP quality.
I have not tried the double PSU yet but am hoping that with ONLY MoBo related on one and drives/VID on the other it might work out... Sure wish that lottery ticket had worked out...
Thanks!
