I have had no problems, except video, with x-com under XP Pro.
For x-com, right-click on your desktop->properties-> Settings tab-> Advanced-> Troubleshoot tab -> and adjust the slider to the left all the way. When you are done playing X-com move the slider back.
Total Annihilation works fine for me in XP Pro.
Don't know about the rest.
EDIT:
Corrected my right to a left.

You can choose for Windows to emulate an OS for certain programs. You do know that right?

for DOS games, you can always download the program DOSBOX.
think a lot of people use it for Ultima 7.

dosbox is amazing - you just gotta set up the configs right
but it doesnt work so well with heavy 3D games (duke nukem3d, hexen, etc) while those games may run great, they dont have sound, and for this i use vmsound that emulates old isa soundcards and such

I played through System Shock 2 again last year, and its still scary as hell. I don't care what you guys think. If anyone says any other game is scarier than SS2, they are dead wrong. The creators used really great sound effects with dark erie lighting effects to create atmospheres that make you feel like you're alone. Doom 3 has nothing on this game.
If you want a good scare, before the sequal Bioshock comes out this April, then find a way to play this game. You can also play it online with a friend in a private game if you like. (Tip: There's a way to steal items from the training areas before you select which branch of the military you want to join, and you can turn gen degradation off or on by editing a cfg file. I turn it off, because they degrade WAY too fast and it takes the fun out of the game.)
When I played this game for the first time years ago, it scared me so bad I fell out of my seat when a mutated crew member came running at me with a lead pipe, screaming at me to kill him. LOL The monkeys are always a pain in the ass though. :D
To run System Shock 2 on XP, go to the TTLG forums. They'll also explain how to run DeusEX and the old Theif games on XP too. :)
