My PC died last night :(
No reason that I can see, but I rebooted the computer and it wouldn't boot back up. Dead as a doornail. I tried pulling RAM, CPU, and graphics card, then powering on to see if there was any beep error codes and nothing, dead silence. Never though rebooting a computer could be detrimental....
My guess is the mobo just randomly blew. I'm going to try a different PSU to make sure that isn't it.
I just got another board to put a 3200+ that I repaired in. If it is my mobo that blew I'm thinking I could put my PSU on that board along with my CPU and X1900XT and RAM and keep running. Guess we'll find out won't we....

I'm guessing you tried to reset the bios? Sorry to hear Sparky.

I HATE YOU ANTEC!!
The system POSTed on some el cheapo no name PSU, so I looked through the fan grill of my Antec TPII 550W and lo and behold, on of those fujhyyu caps was all bulged and messy on top
At least I know the mobo isn't bad, but now I have to go through at reset all my overclocks once I get a new PSU (no way I'm running it on that el cheapo PSU). More money to spend that I don't really have.... argh. Antec I hate you!
OK, rant over.....

be happy its only the PSU :)
it would be worse if it was the mobo, cpu or gpu

Yes this is true. It could have taken components with it I suppose. That would not have been cool. Problem is after trying to reset the bios to see if that changed anything it erased all my overclock settings. It is going to be a chore getting all those memory timings right again... :(
I ordered a new PSU, the Corsair 620W. I need a PSU soon - I need the computer and can't really wait 3 weeks for Antec to get the new one back to me - and I wasn't sure if I would trust my PC to another Antec. I also thought hey with R600 and K8L coming out I'd like to have enough juice to run them both and overclock them, so a power upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea since I'm buying a new PSU anyway. I figure I'll get the replacement Antec PSU and just turn around and sell it.
In the meantime, I'm thinking of linking 2 generic 400W PSUs together to get my system running again. I'd have to take down fold7 to do it. What do you guys think, good idea or should I just wait for the new PSU and not trust my hardware to generic PSUs for a week?

I tried running my 805 on a cheapy 370w PSU for a week and it started to burn out after a few days, even with only a few hours on each day - so I'd probably hang on for a new one if you can. 24/7 might be ok on 2x generic's, bit of a risk in my opinion tho  Antec's reputation is dropping like a stone from my point of view, I've modded fans in my remaining antec's & they seem to be alright, but I had an Antec 350w burn out in a really low end system that should have barely taxed it. No more Antec's here either, or Gigabyte motherboards. I hope the Corsair turns up ASAP man

Yeah I agree, Antec used to be good - parents' PC and my brother's PC are running on 4+ year old Antecs with no problem - but the new ones apparently are rather crappy it seems. The overall design is good on the antecs, but the problem with the Antecs are the caps, they are crap and don't tolerate higher temperatures very well. I am actually tempted to just recap this Antec with some nice rubycons and sell it.
What problems have you had with gigabyte boards? I've built a few customer machines around some budget gigabyte boards and they were top-notch quality for the price, even down to having premium caps on them. I've had less trouble with gigabyte boards than Asus boards personally for the midrange to low-end mobos.

Go for seasonic if you're buying a new psu they easily make the best on the market imo. Lownoise, very efficient and very stable power output. The new corsair PSU's are really just rebranded seasonics btw...

FSP group = win ;)
They're cheap and beastly, I have them in all of the machines I build for work.

Yes, because the Antec Neo and NeoHE series don't have the crap fuhjyyu caps in them :) It is the truepower and smartpower lines that have those.
halo112358, I thought about a FSP unit - in fact that is the same PSU I considered getting a little while back - but I've heard the ripple goes out of spec at higher loads which bothered me. That is why I got the Seasonic built Corsair unit. Also each rail has only 15A, the corsair has 18A per rail, and for highend video cards that 15A might not be enough (not sure on that though, so it wasn't a major point).

I've had a Gigabyte 915 slowly die on me, my 945 worked ok but was sketchy here & there (eg hardlocked if I rebooted it, BIOS lockups), both boards appeared to have worrying Vdroop under load. Both have been taken out of action, they are all Asus here now iirc :p: Gotta stick with whatever works for you when folding :)

Well here is some good news, my system is running right now. It is running off of a 400W noname main PSU for the mobo/CPU, drives, and fans, and a 250W gateway PSU for the X1900XT. My CPU isn't overclocked though, I tried bumping it up a little and it couldn't handle it :p: oh well at least I'm running!

:woot: nice moddage Sparky. Funnily enough, my other 350w Antec is making an odd ticking noise today - taken it off & replaced for a nice Akasa 400 Paxpower  One less Antec to worry about dying.

nice choice on the corsair unit sparky, should be a great psu (seasonic fanboy here) - for those of you who don't care about noiselevels at all, i have very good experiences with superflower 3-fan psu's - they are fairly cheap and run rock solid (i own a 420w and 470w model) but they are quite noisy so i don't use them any more. The 420w ran 24/7 for two years pulling 18 hdd's + the rest of the machine without a single hickup... pretty impressive for such a lowcost psu :)
