So, we got to hang out and discuss some ideas about water cooling such as:

Reviews of the Apogee GT, D-Tek Fuzion, The Storm G5 with dual MCP355's with Petras Tops and comparing the same loop using my Iwaki RD30 on an OPty 170, FX60, his intel boards and C2D when they come in. Also doing some work with MCW60s, the EK FC-8800, & DD NV-88 blocks.

Throw in using Pentosin, PT Nuke and a few other odds and ends.

Yes this will mean quite a bit of work, a in depth course in water cooling for me. and the tossing aroudn of quite a few ideas.

It was great to put a face to a name and talk to someone else in person about OCing, watercooling and just PCs in general and NOT sound like a nerd/geek :-P

There was talk of using a phase change unit as well but there are no real details but ideas being tossed around.

I got to see his rig (The Wraith) and it was sad to see the damage done to her.
I helped him take it down so he can start testing the components to see which is still working and what not. I got to see a bit of the hardware he has and finally seen a DELL 24" up close and in person, it was a sight for me.

The Cube was really light, I didn't know they are aluminum, (never bothered to look).

While taking down the loop we discovered this milky white stuff in the loop NOT ON THE WALLS OF THE TUBING, but free floating in clumps, almost like a loogey...........neither of us know what it is, Philly took a few pics, we'll see if they turn out, it was like a milky type substance that didn't make its presence known till we started draining the loop.

He is eager to get his hands on my G5 and Iwaki :p.

I got to hear about CES and meeting a few notable names here on XS and in the OCing community as well. LUCKY SOB SHACKED UP WITH KINGPIN, but most of us knew that already.

Any way, as I said Philly and I are talking about doign so mad work ocing and testing of various blocks both CPU and GPU as well as using two powerful pump set ups.

Where abouts?

I live in Philly, he lives about 20 minute drive in Yardley.

I am sure he will post more then he gets home, he had just dropped me off.

But he does have quite a bit of work to do testing everything to find otu what still works, to look at the hardware you would not think it was damaged, but the way the case was bent and twisted while not totally obvious, was an indication that it took at least one good forceful hit.

I don't live in Philly, or very near Philly for that matter. I'm in Connecticut. However, it would be nice if I could visit you guys in Philly at some time and buy you guys lunch/dinner. Just a suggestion. Cheers.

Hey, the white stuff. You could send it to a lab to find out what it is, since its in chunks!!!

Yes, it was fun to hang out and meet you. I am in mid rebuild. . .will be testing into the wee hours on the morning. . .

I'll get my rig back up and running. . .got to finish gathering data for the G80 waterblock review. It'll be nice to have another capable set of hands for Wednesday or Thursday night benching (the days and nights I usually bench when the gf is at work).

We have another thread started in Wamps about getting together sometime in February. . .don't have the date set in stone. . .still taking suggestions.

Ian. . .you are welcome down here any time. . .I have a spare bedroom for you to sleep over if the day runs late. . .come hang out some time!

That white stuff you guys are talking about almost sounds like the flux used when brazing a rad together.

Nope. . .not rad flux. . .I know what that looks like. . .besides I am waaay anal about cleaning the rad before installing it. . .the loop sat idle for almost a month. . .it had deionized water and Pentosin and 3 drops of PT Nuke. . .nothing coulda lived in that water. . .

Sounds strange, almost like some type of algae, but it sticks to the tubing.. Maybe a reaction between the pentosin and the pt nuke? Have you tried to mix them without water?

I'm also tempted to know what this "white gunk" is, possibly a reaction of chemicals in the loop, as previously stated. As to what is causing the reaction, I do not know.

I'll post a few pics tomorrow. . .knee deep in CPR for my damaged rig. . .

Man I cant wait for my work schedule to free up a bit so I can go down to 'backwards' mackadelphia.. I am fiendin 'steaks wit' something awful ;)

Theres a new regulation coming up to change electronic trading called REG NMS.. If my firm signs with the philly exchange to post our prints and crosses, I might just score myself a couple weeks stay down there :)

Either way, I'm looking forward to a Northeast XS meetup sometime soon!!!

I've seen the "loogies" too in leftover water/audi coolant mix I had laying around. Never seen it in my loop though. Of course my rig never sits idle for a month at a time either.

mmm i was just thinking about that the white wierd substance, could it be from the tubes.
could it be possiple that pentosin and pt nuke had dissolved the tubing?
pretty far-fetched, i know but what if ?

welshtom
01-25-2007, 05:19 AM
it happens when you dont use pentosin and pt-nuke though.

it may just be all glycol based coolants we use causing it

the only white chuncks ive seen was in my rad i cleaned a lot but when i used the pump to move water trough it... white stuff in balls came out of it

when I changed the pumps in my reserators there was a whole heap of white silty sludge in the base.

As far as I could tell it was a mixture of metal breaking down from different elements in the water loop and some kind of bacteria.

it's the reason I decided to go for cape coras so I can break the entire system down into components once every 12 months and am placing filters on the downstream between rad and pump, i know it will affect flow but worth it to give a quick clean out once every 2 months or so.

it's the other reason why I was hoping to go with all clear perspex water blocks (damm you fuzion delrin for changing that plan :)

Try not to make it in the next 7-10 days.. I had knee surgery yesterday and I can't drive for at least 7 days. All I have to say is thank god for Vicodin ...

The thing with me week days is that I don't get done work till 5, Philly_boy lives like a 20 minute drive from my work, but I have no car, so it would take me like an hour & 1/2 at least to get there. Yesterday he went out of his way to pick me up. Or I would not have been able to hang around as long, cause I have to get up at 4, and 4-5 hours of sleep just is not cutting it with me so I can't stay that late. Which again he gave me a ride home, cause i only live 15 minutes by car from him hahaha, DAMN I NEED WHeeLs....hahahaha.

Your hospitality is much appreciated Philly.

If I can get out of work a little bit early, then I could hang around for little more then two hours. Though we had his system apart in less then 30 minutes.

Sometime you need TWO sets of hands to take a part a loop, but he has quite a bit of tools and accessories that come in handy.

We need to convince him to move into the garage cause this time of year Ambient temps are awsome :stick:.

hey PHILLY, any word on the patient? How long were you up last night playing Dr.?

I can do like next Wednesday or Thursday if you want to shoot for it INJViper? Wait on word from Philly_Boy and see what we can work out.

I was talking to him about if his expert is dead, that I could bring my over, all we would have to do is pop out my BIOS chip, drop his in, and should his FX60 be okay, drop that in my board and we can go from there for using a 939 setup till he gets the Intel parts going.

Was up til 5am and got everything laid out and most of the loop together. I am in the process of taking care of a few things with Chilly1's customers and should get back to it in an hour or so. I am feeling the pain of 4 hours sleep. I'll have some word by later tonight.

Thursday would be better.. Shoot me a pm with your home and work address. I don't see a problem with picking you up and dropping you off.. I'm only 10-15 minutes away from Philly_Boy and I'm probably closer to philly than PB.. Also Phelan if we setup a weekend session I could give you a ride to and from...

PB was saying you live in Bensalem, that is smack between the two of us, that would rock. I live 5 minutes from The Mills, you should know what I mean by that.

MY RIG LIVES!!!!!:toast:  :toast:

It is gurgling quietly even as I write this. I somehow was making a 115v loop by plugging in one molex into another. So now I am off to test my 8800GTX's.

Btw, the FuZion is a flow meister!! I have idle temps of around 27c. That's with my FX-60 at 1.5v v-core. Time to put on my overclocking shirt and gather some data for my G80 waterblock review.

I have had some of this white gunk floating around in my loop, I have no idea what it is either though, I just cleaned everything out and put my fresh water in it and let it run, havnt seen it again but I also havnt checked in a while ;).
