well beta 53 was just released and now supreme commander has officially gone gold (As of several days ago)

beta 53 is very good. a little more balancing was done and theyve finally fixed alot of the nat issues as well as the memory leaks that were causing late game lag (someone with an old computer will still bring the game to a halt in 4v4s). however i still think there are some serious stability and speed issues but hopefully optimizing it will get rid of those. the game has improved much in that respect with the past 3 updates, so it seems GPG knows what the problem is and how to fix it. should be an awesome game once it hits shelves.

there is already talk of an expansion in the works

theyre gonna shut the beta down in less than two weeks, dont know what ill do with myself :(

Oooooooooooooooooh man! This is going to be crazy. My first RTS, and I'm hooked big time. Can't wait for this to come out... 1 month to go :( You guys have any new updates on whether or not there will be a collector's edition in US/Canada?

heres another shot i took when i first started playing.
as far as special edition, i think theres going to be some special edition only available through amazon or gpg store. cant remember, but i can ask one of the developers

EDT: ok i asked some people - general consensus is that there are 3 different collector's edition and each comes with a tin, a poster of one of the factions and a bonus dvd with maps and music and typical stuff like that. apparently you can already preorder it, at least in europe.

EDIT2: but dont take my word for it, i couldnt get a straight answer from anyone in the beta chat room about what all is on the dvd, they were all busy debating useless BS as usual

oh god it's gorgeous... what are the general strats considering balancing etc? also what fps are you guys getting? thinking pretty low during battles because of the lighting scheme and the textures aren't too noticeable. looks more pixel shader heavy.

Hey Basic, not sure I remember you but I'll see ya around.

Praxis: Balance is pretty good, each team has their own strength but overall each faction is very playable. The main thing is that you have to be FAST to hang with the best and you can't waste resources. FPS range a lot, I have a 165@2.7 and an x800xl and I can play on medium with fair fps.

The thing is if your playing against someone with an old PC is doesn't matter how good yours is, the game is Asynchronous.

theres only one cracked version, cant remember which it is, one of the earlier ones. and you have to use hamachi to play it

pallmall - the game is definately memory intensive, it wouldnt hurt to have 2gb or more. but form what ive seen having dual core is most important for good performance

and also the late game lag comes from someone's bad computer getting backed up and slowing the game down, as magnj said. the memory leaks and nat issues have been fixed - so they dont cause late game lag anymore

There's cracks up to v38, after that the only ones I've found just enable AI(you still have to have a beta key and go on GPGNet).

Aww man, that sucks big time. There's no way I can get all three IF there are... Last I heard was that there's no Collector's for US, but there is for Europe. Even if there is, I guess I'll get the Aeon one, while my friend gets the Cybran. Anyhoo, regarding the game without Beta Key, there's only a crack for v3.8, which allows you to Skirmish. For more info, check out the thread by Arbit3r. I should take a few screenies as well, playing at 1680*1050, maxxed out, at around 28FPS to start off, and slowly goes down, to an aweful 7FPS if there's a huge battle with 100+ units.

I remember playing it on new years eve into 1999.

Still pull it out when I get some time, but by now it is showing its age.

It still giver me shivers when I get nine nuke silos running at full tilt. :slobber:

Oh holy damn this game looks so good. I've been looking forward ot it ever since E3. Looks like I am going to have to upgrade early.
This is hoing to blow C&C 3 out the water (literall ywit hone of those massive ships you can build :D)

The game looks great, and the scale will be larger than anything done before. But to be honest the environments look rather bland, and they don't focus much at all on battle strategy. The player with the best use of their resources and technology upgrades will usually win. Also once the matches heat up and the scale of things increases, you will have to zoom way out to command everything and you will lose all the fun you had watching the battles up close.

I'll wait for C&C 3, which should be a lot more fun once the bullets start flying ;)

Yes the games have a different focus, but I prefer what C&C 3 is doing which is a much stronger focus on the battles and units themselves.

yeah i spend just about 100% of the game after initial base building in the strategic view.

i do disagree though on the strategy. this game focuses on strategy just as much as any other game, its just strategy on such a large scale that you can kind of feel lost in it. when its 20 units against 20 units, the strategy is alot more detailed cus youre sending small groups of units around and each individual unit is important. but in supcom you're micromanaging 100s of units at a time so each unit is lost. and if youre doing something like a sabotage or trying to sneak around a base, you dont send 5-10 units like you would in C&C3, youd be sending close to 100, which makes it feel like an army of its own and kind of causes it to lose the micromanagement strategy

honestly, im a bit nervous about C&C3, after reading about all the units, superpowers and gameplay - it sounds like a cookie cutter copy of generals

althought i am definately going to be buying both games

It's between this and company of heroes as my first RTS, most likely COH because it'll probably drop in price sooner:D

You are mixing words. Tactics is what you describe as "alot more detailed strategy". Tactics is about low scale, strategy is big scale like armies - not how to fight with a couple of units.
