I had planned to stop benching for a while and take away everything from my desk, but then 'chefnr1' (sweden) called and said that he had some LN2 left after his latest session.
So, at midnight I started playing with a Celeron 331 but what ever I did I could not save any result over 100% OC. :( Any Hints?
Anyway, I had bought a Celeron D 360 Cedar Mill just for fun. It costed less than 100USD here in Sweden.
To my surprise 100% OC was done easy.

Hrm, nearly 7GHz... would it do 7.1GHz?
7113MHz

I could not believe it was so easy! How about 7.2GHz? Just upped the Vcore to 1.93v made it.

Now it started to get unstable... I had problem saving my results but finally I managed to break 7.3GHz.

I am not sure if the board (ASUS P5WDG2 WS Pro) survived but I will test it more this evening.

Maybe you have captured some SPi results? But anyway good job- some points for hwbot!
nice score! congrats! :woot:
Benching those 65nm Cellies on LN2 is really funny :D

Thanks! :)
Yes, they are really funny. Compared with a Kentsfield or X6800 pouring LN2 is a pure pleasure on this one. :) -119-> -121 all the time without problem. At -125 the motherboard goes down.
Actually I did not run any benchmark. I planned to run SP1M, 32M and PiFast atleast after I had found max OC. But suddenly the PSU started to give me some PIPs so I guess that either the board is broken or (if I am lucky) I just had a temporary shortcut on it. I have dryed the board now and I plan to test it later this evening.

Thanks everyone! :)
The board seems to work so I will try an E6600 retail now. I have just got the chip so I do not know how it performes. This is also my first test with dual-core. ;)
I would like to test the Celerons once more but I am running out of time so I only have time for a quick test on each CPU. :(

@blossa, yours pot is brassed one I guess? Do you know maybe temps on ln2 of CPU? if cold bug is under -150C, maybe 8ghz milestone is very close :toast:

I just tried the E6600 but I seem to be limited by the board (max FSB at about 470). :( I can do ~4.2GHz with 1.68V Vcore. I raised all the way up to 1.85V but no luck. The other voltages has been tried to the 'limit'. Also, as I plan to use this E6600 in a HTPC I do not want to break it. ;) Also, the E6600 seems to stop at about 105-110 degrees.
Misko82: Hrm... I can not see temps in windows and I only have a sensor in the bottom of the pot. What I meant earlier was that when the BIOS reads -125 degrees on the CPU, then the board stops working. One way to get around that should be to run higher Vcore. Last night I had to stop at 1.93V, maybe I should try the Celeron again instead of the Kentsfield? :D
EDIT: changed the FSB-limit from 270->470. My mistake.

You misunderstood a little ;) - that 7GHz was on Celly352 (and till yesterday it was a WR for a whole Celeron family) and this is still WR for 352 - Poland is still holding it :D.
And, of course, great result this 7,3GHz!

amazing!.. was it really so easy?
Yes it was. I guess it took about 3 hours from unpacking the CPU until I posted the result on the TechSweden forum. I guess I got some condesation problem at the end of the session, otherwise I would have continued pushing it.
I had to give it another try this evening but I ran out of LN2 so no luck. I was up to 1.97v on Vcore but had big problems getting it stable. Also, I guess that something has taken the beating because yesterday I could boot time after time at 6.5GHz, today I could hardly boot at 6GHz. At the end of the session I could hardly boot at 5GHz.
Well, even if something got broken this was well worth it! :D
7.3Ghz...christ. Only if a E6600/6700 could do that! Sub 5 second super pi 1M?

Interestingly enough, due to the nature of Pi, a Conroe at those speeds would only pull off a time in the 7 second range.
One of the fastest CPU's in existence in terms of raw MHz--and its a Celly! :toast:

Thanks again all! :)
I like to think that I am rather organized when overclocking but I am still not as experienced as many of you.
As the chip is so dawn cheap I predict that 7.5GHz will fall within a few weeks. :) Not by me, but by one of you guys! On a board that is table when giving ~2v Vcore I do think it is possible with this chip.
I did have problems holding the temp over 1.95V but a more experienced person might handle it better than me.

Everything above 7GHz counts. :D But I must say that my result feels like a 'normal' result now that 8GHz has been broken. ;)
Podstavsky: I think we should try to get the WR to Nothern Europe. :D

1.That's right - the 7GHz barrier break is very, very nice :D
I've heard about the cedar mill 631 - enormous result...
2. blossa - you should be very happy - the WR of Celeron belongs to Northern Europe (first time I heard about 7.3 I thought - the next maniac from USA)
Well - if you want to beat the highest frequency WR - i'm ready :) To gain: Asus Striker or P5B dlx, LN2 (i've got a little tank near the academy - 0.5t of liquid nitrous  ) + several 671 form Intel - and there will be 9GHz :D
PS: shall we start the war with south europe? :p:

01-22-2007, 12:03 PM
:D I envy you for having all that hardware. I only have about 2kbm of dryice atm. ;)
Also, I plan to take a break for a while. Originally I planned to do that before last weekend. :)
Na, I do not know about 'war', but it would sure be nice to try to give them a hard time. ;)

Oops! Misunderstand ;) The hardware i mentioned is not at my own yet :D If you want to beat the WR i'm ready to do this, but with equipment is not as good as with wishes ;) LN2 - yes - with this there will be no problem, but arranging the 671 - cash is essential.
By the way - i've never OC the CPU with liquid N or dry ice. WC at most ;)
PS: However - blossa - take care. Polish overclocking community is with you :) Break those guys from Italy - show the power of the Cel's D multiplier :D
