Are people still playing UT2004?

I'm asking because I'm thinking of buying it. Don't wanna buy it if there's like only 100 people playing. Is the community as big as CS:S?

No where close to CS:S, but yes, still a pretty big community. But as mentioned by serialk11r, UT07 is coming out, and you might as well wait for that.

Ur rig should run it pretty well already, it's pretty buffed up. But of course w/ next gen games needing better systems every minute, new hardware becomes old waaaaay tooo quickly.:(

It really REALLY is. They react to intelligent voice commands such as 'Search the tower' (and they'll tell you if they encounter anyone). 'Enemy in sniper loft' etc. No longer are you constrained to 4/5 sentences.

For sure. I've read up on everything I possibly can when it concerns UT2k7. I just can't wait to try out the new AI myself, if you know what I mean.

One thing I'll test is whether the instadeath still happens during IGDM where when you go up a lift, you seem to get instakilled by the bots. This is on adept, not Godlike, so it really does get on my nerves. It can also happen when running around a corner. It's like they can see through walls, which shouldn't be happening on adept difficulty. I don't mind them getting lucky every once in a while, but this happens consistantly.

Still, I have faith in Epic. :D

Essentially bots don't see walls. They can hit them but they don't see them. I think the bots will intelligently react to the terrain and map so hopefully that problem will be gone.

Its not dead. It won't even die for a few months when 07 comes out because a lot of people won't have the rig to run it.

Were talking about the community, not whether its still being played by some.

There are surely people playing it on couple of public servers, but most/all of the bigger and known UT clans/teams all stopped playing, and there are so little as none competitions anymore its as good as dead :)

I bet there are people playing red alert2 online, still its a dead game.

I still play the original, although admittedly against bots most of the time. Its still the favourite laptop LAN game at work though. On some days if you come into our office at lunchtimes all you'd see is a load of people staring intently at their monitors with the occasional scream of delight as someone gets that "perfect headshot"

And I'll surely be paying even when I'll have UT3 because they cut off double domination, basketball and mutant from the game, a move I really don't understand because what made UT2k4 shine was excellence in a large variety of gametypes.

There were complaints last time that all the different game types, mods, and mutators fragmented the community too much and made it hard to find good servers, an opinion shared by Cliffy B.

The Unreal 3 engine is not DX10 but it is DX9.0c.
