Games to get for new system

Just ordered parts for my new homebuilt. GeForce 8800GTX, C2D E6600, 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400, etc.

I have NO GAMES. And I really haven't payed much attention to games at all this last year because I've been in basic training and AIT for the last 7 months (i.e. no access to the outside world, "yes drill sergeant, no drill sergeant")

Anyway, would you recommend any other games besides the ones listed here and also are there any listed here that you think are NOT worth buying?

I already purchased Oblivion and F.E.A.R that's why I didn't put them on the list.

I'm excited about Crysis...have you seen the videos on IGN? One word orgasmic :D

And Vanguard looks awesome as well for an MMORPG. I never got into WoW and so I think I'll just skip over it completely.

2142!!! play titan mode. its kickass. Oh and an 8800gtx won't do max quality everything in nvidia control panel and get good framerates, just a warning. My dual 7900gs' which is better than a single 8800gtx can't do it, even when overclocked to the max.

at 1600x1200, which is the highest res of the game, it will crank it to the wall... :cool:

I typed it wrong:D my bad my bad. Anyways, dual 8800gtx is pretty much the only thing that will give you good framerates and pwnage quality at the same time.

Yup. That's exactly why even if I had tons of money, I would not get dual 8800gtxs. And I know bottleneck, I hate that word. My cheapass maxtor hard drive takes forever to load a map. When flash hybrid drives come out i'm getting them.

On what res?? Because if you're playing at 1600x1200, I'll take one 8800GTS and crank any current game all the way... It might struggle a bit half a year from now, but wth....
Now, if you play at 2560x1600, I'll take the dual 8800GTX, because if you can afford that kind of resolution, you can afford the cards to run it...

Fear Extraction Point - certain areas are graphically more demanding compared to the original. At 1600x1200 and above with maxed out settings and aa/af it'll give your GTX a chance to flex its rendering muscles. Don't have the save levels on hand, or else would have mentioned which areas in the game to look out for.

Rainbow Six Vegas - one of the early games to utilize the U3 engine. Wouldn't say it's demanding because of this, but more so because it's a straight port from console and being one of the first games based on the U3 engine the development team still on a learning curve. Certain section have shown flashes of next gen visuals while others, compared to GoW, have not been the best use of the engine. Be prepared to lower your expectations if you do decide to try this game, it has been reported that certain sections have produced FPS in the 20s and below for 8800/c2d configurations.

do by a hl2 anthology or watever its called. steam is getting really really greedy :(. or go to a retail store and somehow find a hl2 retail copy. that way you save alot of money.


hl2 is definiatly one of the best fps ive played. i dont think episode one is worth buying because it costs 20bux and its only 3 hours long (its basically just hl2 gameplay with more action packed into the 3 hours that it lasted).
