I have put together a new C2D system and am looking into buying a couple of games to try and stress the system. I play UT2004 and like it a lot and I know UT2007 is around the corner. But I am sure todays games are more taxing to the system while probably being graphically superior. What I would like to know is this: which PC game has the best combination of sound,. graphics, stress to the system, and fun factor? I realize "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but hopefully someone here can convice me to buy 1 or 2 games soon.

TIA,

J

I suppose you play first person shooters, seeing as you play UT2004... So I'd suggest Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Quake 4, F.E.A.R., with expansion if you want, and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (if you want RPG)... If you want real-time strategy games, I'd suggest Company of Heroes, Dawn Of War Anthology or, if you can find it, Supreme Commander Beta... For other kinds of strategy, I'd say the Medieval II: Total War might do the trick :)
If you want 3rd person games I'd suggest Splinter Cell Double Agent (assuming you can live with more than a few bugs) or Rainbow Six Vegas...
If you want to continue online-playing a'la UT2004, I'd say wait it out... Some excellent games are coming this year (UT2007 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars)...

Best Regards :toast:

If you're going to play Half-life 2, play the fakefactory cinematic mod.
Much better and your system can handle it :)

CSS is awesome and lots of fun online with friends. COD 2 is also very nice, cause you got real rifles, not the half-automatic BS that you have in all the other games!

ewwww oblivion... sorry.. I give a vote to BF2142. Highly unrealistic, yet insanely fun:D And yes, very taxing to the system. My 7900gs' overclocked to 700MHz (ya I used to have them there) didn't handle it too well at sli X16 antialiasing and x16 anti isotropic filtering:( It got pretty bad framerates and I couldn't pwn noobs anymore, so I had to turn it down. I turned all the performance boosting options on and all the quality down except x16 AA x16 AIF and gamma correction. I was amazed at the quality drop, but also amazed at the performance increase. Oh and second place for me goes to CS:D

Well I said that because I don't like RPGs. I play FPS because it uses more "tangible" skill. The skill is "micro" skillz, not fast clicking. And so far, 2142 is the only game I'm really good at, so ya.

I love BF2142 because PAC has a wonderful advantage over EU: EU uniforms have orange shoulders:D Just shoot between the orange things:D also titan mode is really kickass. Once I remember a support dude dropped an ammo pack behind me and I ended up putting about 14 demo packs onto the enemy titan. Then I pressed the button:D and some EUs defending the titan died too:D

Supreme Commander Beta is a lot of fun, but the crack only allows you to skirmish with the bots or LAN. Very fun nevertheless, and pretty hardware intensive.

Bah, 2142 will make you wish that your 8800s were faster, if you do max quality. like full antialiasing, anti isotropic filtering, and all the quality stuff you can see in the nvidia control panel. It made my 7900gs's in sli overclocked heftily lag a lot.
