Okay, I have tons of questions ... well sort of ...
Here's the story:

I've been thinking about another 320 GB 7200.10 and doing a clean reinstall of Windows. I have a Gigabyte DS3 rev 1. I've also looked around for stuff relating to RAID, but don't get it entirely. I also plan on splitting the 640 GB into 320 for Windows XP, 120 for Windows Vista, 100 for Linux, 100 for Apache Webserver ..

1) Is Gigabyte's DS3's controller a JMB363 rebranded?
2) Would it work with the same JMicron drivers?
3) I know RAID 0 can be used on Windows ... Can I use it with Ubuntu Linux and/or Apache webserver?
4) Is the controller considered a hard RAID?
5) Are the controllers (cheap 100 or 50 dollar ones) better than the JMB363 onboard?
6) Should I get the hard drive? My other 250 GB is running out of space and soon will my 320 GB...
7) What's the best Linux ... well in terms of looks, support, and functionability? (I want something faster than Windows, but doesn't look like crap, and has decent driver support for maybe sound, a nvidia video card ... and RAID of course)
8) My hard drives can't be move to another comp, correct?

[Note: I CANNOT trade my crap motherboard for another one.]

I'm interested in this thread as I think I'm gonna do raid instead of 1 raptor and 1 seagate.

raiding the raptor and the seagate is a horrible idea. Raids dont work well with different drives. I don't think the different spindle speeds will agree very well. Not to mention its a different drive as it is, I don't know what the spindle synchronization issues will be like but it doesn't sound good. Also the raptor will be hindered by the seagate and be lowered to its level. You will also loose the difference in space as the capacity has to be equal.

You would be much much better off keeping them separate. Raptor for os and apps and the seagate for storage.

1) Probably
2) just use the ones that came with the mobo
3) linux raid being hardware based the os wouldn't matter but software raid depends on the nature of the OS.
4) Not really, I'd call it an attempt at hardware raid
5) Yep but buying a $150 PCIe one would be a good investment
6)If that is what you think you should do
7) that question is way too open ended but many popular linux mixes fit that very well
8) depends on the OS and if you installed the correct drivers
