Rig is in sig:

I have one IDE DVD/CDRW drive and one SATA DVD/SATA drive. I "MAY" have to remove one of the driives to make room for the tubing for my WC'ing system.

Any benefits to keeping one or the other. I have an inclination to remove the IDE just to get rid of the round cable vs. the SATA cable. The round cable is so twisted around to fit into my P5B IDE slot and that is the only reason I'd remove that drive vs. the SATA drive.

Other opinions??

Keep SATA DVD Drive. It's faster than IDE DVD Drive.

Keep SATA DVD Drive. It's faster than IDE DVD Drive.

I thought of that as well, but didn't really know because they are both Lite- On drives and only like one digit off on the part number.. and have the exact same specs.

So, does SATA just have a faster transfer rate even though the drives have the same specs?

Yep. For more information between PATA and SATA: http://www.directron.com/patasata.html

What i would do is test them both. This can be done very quickly andeasily by burning a large file to cd or dvd media and time which one is faster. If one ends up faster keep that one in and if they are the same i would keep the SATA one in becuase of the cabling os going to look a little neater with the smaller SATA cable.

They're both the same speed then they're both the same speed. Keep the one that's easier to route. I would keep the SATA one if it's running fine, that way you don't have to use the tacked on IDE controller of the P5B.

I'd keep the IDE because I would be afraid to run out of SATA ports later.

Also, SATA connectors sucks.

is sata faster?
Yes, but for a RW-drive it doesn't matter AFAIK :)
