Sometimes its good to take a break from today's latest and greatest to take some pressure of benching and test one's true limits a bit further. :p: I was kindly sent this CPU for some subzero torture and there was no way I could pass on such an offer. After a couple of days of fudging around with northbridge cooling methods (both on i875 and i975 ;) ), and then several hours of anguish today after having a near-dead board and broken mounting hardware, ultimately my friend Damian and I decided to go for the gutso without any insulation or mounting whatsoever.

The victims:

Intel Celeron 310 2.13GHz S478
Abit IC7-G Rev 1.0 vcore, vchip (northbridge) modded
Kingston HyperX 3000 BH5
Brazed copper container by Chilly1
Solid aluminum container by sysfailure

The result:

A 135% overclock and the world record for this particular CPU. No idea if the northbridge cooling was remotely necessary, but who cares.

The CPU probably had a bit more left in it, but we had to stop for the time being due to some condensation issues: :p:

Enjoy! :)

Big thanks to orionlion82 from OCForums for letting me have a run with such a finely clocking chip. It has big potential and I'm not done pushing it yet- but back to school tonmorrow. :-/ I hope he's pleased with it so far. And to Damian for staying over for five hours even as things got (very) frustrating throughout the night.

Very well done my friend! That's an insane clock; congrats!

why are you running with no insulation? :D
How did you manage to attach the tube to northbridge?
How much Vcore?

Very nice OC!! :D

I am loving the insane OC's coming from old school celerons!!! :D

What a coincidence, I was also playing with a IC7 and a bunch of old CPUs over the last couple of weeks... :D

Well, lets just say when you spend several hours trying to do things the "right" way and fail, at 2 AM, you really don't give a  about much...besides, insulation is boring, lol. (Note to anyone wanting to get into this, don't listen to me, I'm a bad influence)

I have a couple methods of mounting to the NB, one involving the clips on the board (which unfortunately are so weak that I can tear them off with my bare hands), the other being an arc press style mount made out of plexiglass (snapped in half a few minutes before firing up) So in the end, all I did was place the container on the NB, along with a generous amount of Ceramique. Effortless. :D

The voltages- ~1.76v vcore, 1.81v vchip, 1.65v vagp (needs mod), 2.8v vdimm.

crotale, before I gave this CPU a shot, I was looking through the 100%+ OC's, and came to the simple conclusion that mobile Celeron Northwoods need to be banned from any net overclock competition. They are just too fast, and in your hands, even bigger trouble. :D Seems like you were 2% short with this run though. ;) Honestly I wonder what the next CPU core/generation will be that will top your long standing record (if any) Frankly I was hoping for 150% out of this Prescott on DI...it might have made 170-200 (gasp) remotely feasable on LN2. Still is worth a shot, I suppose. I can say you've single-handedly made going for high net overclocks more worthwhile for myself and many others I'm sure. :toast:

Wow that is quite wonderful and love how there's no unsulation.

Very true, but the performance is simple miserable for anything else than %-clocking.

With good mounting and insulation I think you could bring down 150%, so keep pushing it! If the board struggles, try the 8:2:1 ratio with an IDE drive ;)

I believe the new E4000 CPUs might be killer overclockers. An E4200 (1.6GHz) would only require 4.8GHz to hit 200%

Heh, too true.

I didn't realize the ratios would give extra headroom, thanks for the tip. On that run, if you look closely, you'll notice I used a PCI-66 IDE/SATA controller. :p: I ran the PCI at 39MHz fixed...early threads indicated that this way to go on this board? Yes, I should actually bother to mount the containers next time.

"Only" 4.8GHz...looks like you're already getting prepared. :D

But then you need 600 FSB too ;)

Got a movie of your oc?
How do we know if it's legit? ;) ;)

So is the motherboard still intact and functional after this session took place? If so, then I think you need to *fix* that and go do some more OC'ing. =P
