Got a condensing unit from work from an open style cooler thing. Compressor was dead. I thought I would drain out some of the oil :)

the stuff that made the oil black is probably a combination of crud from brazing and motor winding insulation, I tried hooking it up and as soon as I plugged it in the GFCI popped. going in the trash this weekend

You can still use the condenser for a watercooling radiator.

A burnout,shorted compressor, or just air in the system can turn oil acidic like that over time.
