OK, got my QX6700 chillin' with my LS. Right now, think I've got it about maxed. 350 x 11, 1.5vcore, RAM at 583, 5-5-5-15, 2.4v, P5B Deluxe, 0804, NB at 1.65v. LS reads -33c, but what's the best way to actually check core temp at this point, 'cuz Probe is way buggered, reads 252c.

you are @ about -3 c asus probe starts @ 255 and counts backward if you know what i mean for instance mine says 216c right now but mbm and speedfan say -39c so by doing the math it appears you are @ -3 quads are kinda hot. try speedfan or mbm

Would that be considered a normal temp? I mean with the LS evap reading -33c, would -3c be a normal core temp? Or should I recheck the evap seating on the cpu? I am using AS5 for the paste.

did you try speedfan yet? -3c is not good you are running very warm imo.

Speedfan reads CPU -4c, AUX (whatever that sensor is) -14 to -22c. Are those readings from each die?

don't know don't have kentsfeild. try dropping v core and oc a little. on my 6600 once i get over 1.5 it gets very hot

I guess I don't understand. How can -4c be considered hot when these run +40 to +60c on air? Right now I'm at 385 x 10, 1.5125 vcore. Evap reads -32c. Is the difference between the -32c evap reading and the -4c cpu reading from speedfan normal? Or should the cpu be running closer to the evap temp? This is my first phase rig, and I don't know if that is a normal differential or if I should be checking to see if the evap is properly seated on the cpu.
BTW, thank you very much for the input.

i would definetly re-mount and use ceramiqe as paste i use a very thin layer applied only to cpu with razor blade. as for temps i think the quad will overpower that ls with high vcore. you don't want to be thawing and freezing all the time or you will most likely get condensation problems ie: dead mobos , cpus etc. i am a noob myself but i don't trust letting it get up to ambient or above. and under load you would absolutely be above freezing.

Ambient? I am at -4c under full load, all 4 cores. I am detecting no condensation outside of the socket or clamshell, and I used the white paste that came with the LS to coat the entire socket and bottom of the cpu.
Does anybody else agree that I should change out the AS5 for Ceramique instead? I think I should at least try remounting the evap and see if it makes any difference, unless someone with more experience can tell me that what I am getting here is normal.
Thanx again.

-4 under orthos small ffts? what kind of load?i assumed you meant @ idle.

Crunching Seti WUs, all 4 cores, cpu usage at 100%.

whew!! i have been thinking you meant @ idle you were @-4 i was worried for the quad. i would probably still try lowering vcore a notch at a time and testing with orthos each time. i have been playing myself and found i don't need as much as i thought. and temps have been getting much better.

Ya know, I'm not sure I'm getting accurate temp readings at all. Speedfan always shows -4, and I just rebooted and checked in the bios, also shows -4, even after the reboot and no processes running yet. That AUX temp in speedfan bounces around and seems to be controlled by the speed03 setting. If you set it at anything other than 38%, it goes from -16 or so to +122. I don't have a clue what that is all about, never used speedfan before.
Wasn't there an Intel program I remember seeing that would read the temps right out of sensors embedded in the cpu?

try mbm5 it has worked on mine fine (again i use a conroe). i read in the bios thread some people with 804 were stuck at -4 when sub zero. maybe try 0910 beta i'm using it and it seems fine and probably has some quad fixes over the last official bios thereis a thread in the intel section with a link.

Well, I'll have to do some more research on this or post in one of the other forums for some input on the bios issue. The last thing I wanna do right now is start mucking around changing bios, but you might be onto something there.
Gonna check tomorrow and see if I can dig up that Intel cpu temp program I think I remember seeing and give it a try. Let you know what I find out, but right now I gotta get some sleep.
Thanx again.
