What are most of yall using inbetween your cpu and phase change block?

Not thermal compound.. but for my athlon xp kit it had a metal bracket i put inbetween them. I was wondering what kind of bracket are people using for a64's. Can I use the same bracket and just cut the whole bigger?

some white paste. ITs a non conductive thermal compound.

Do you mean if any of us use shimms in combination with phase change, so you can't crush the core?

If I understand your question correctly, I think you're asking about core protection.

For the old athlon's, you needed a shim around the core to protect it due to no IHS.

For those that remove the IHS, a shim is a good idea.

For cpu's with an IHS, no shim is needed as it protects the core. Thermal compound is all that's needed.

For the bracket, if that's what you mean for mounting, a new kit is needed for LS/Mach2 mounting, and if you're lucky enough to have a modded unit or a custom unit, the mount will normally be universal enough to just drill new holes if you don't have them.

Things like socket 775 install, or Dothan Intel mounting with adapters make certain installs quite challenging, but normally all you need these days if you leave the IHS installed on the cpu is thermal paste and the correct mounting kit.

Thank you. That is what I wanted to know.

Is it required to have this shim if you are very careful?

Anybody using MX-2 for thermal compound on Phase change. I'm curiuos if it works at freezing temperatures.

MX-2 Works great! It's recommended to use all the way down to -150°C, just like AS Ceramique
