Got a question on your fsb...

Did you have to cut the L12 bridge on your cpu to get your fsb that high ?

I can only get my XP2700 to 187 ,185 is what I run it at most of the time.

I've tried different mem timings and voltages with no luck...

thnx

Welcome to the Xtreme Forums !!! glad to see you here :)

Yes I cut it a while back when it was in an Asus A7N8X, I don't know if its necessary on your Epox. Do you have the vdd mod ??
You should be able to do 200fsb even with out upping the vdd I would think.

here is a length thread on the subject if you haven't read it yet you should.

Thnx for the reply..

I dont have a vdd mod..

I took the jclk jumper off so I'd default to 133 but did'nt help in raising the fsb.

Guess I'll try cutting the L12 and see what happens...

Let us know how it goes !! And the cut doesn't have to be very deep at all more like a scrape.

Tweaked!

Thnx for all your help and welcoming me into this great board.....

Well I've done everything i can think of.. I cut the bridge and it booted up at 133 ,so the cut was successful.

I can only get to 190 fsb stable. This is with running only 2 sticks of ram and everything disabled I can think of.

Tried every combination of multipliers, mem timmings and voltages possible.

Temps are good,37C idle,44C load. I've got a Zalmon on the nb and the stock nb cooler on the sb...

So I guess it's either the MB or this Kingston ram or maybe the cpu is just maxed out ? :(

thnx again :toast:

stvGP, at this point, I'de say your problem is the mobo. You need to do the vdd volt mod. If you do a search, you can surely find a thread on this forum re the mod, or you can go here:

http://www.motherboardfaqs.com/8RDA/file.php?file=vdd_mod.htm

This link tells you everything you need to know to do it. However, you don't have any soldering experience, I'd recommend trying to do it using smd micrograbbers (a good brand is Pomona) instead. The grbbers are little clips you can clip onto the legs of the IC chip insted of soldering. I've attached a pic of some so you know what I'm talking about.

Good luck!

I had to do the vdd mod on my 8RDA+(rev 1.0) to get above 184mhz fsb with my xp2600(333fsb).

Removed the jumper but didnt cut the bridge. Now running at 200x12 1.8vdd stable. Also stuck a 60mm fan to the northbridge and a zalman passive heatsink to the southbridge.Just need to stick the heatsinks to the mosfets next.

Take the multi down to 6, just remove the chip from the equation.

If all else fails, bump the VDD.

You're running THREE (3) sticks of mem? :stick:

When trying to O/C ,I'm using only 2 sticks of ram

The problem looks to be in the Hyper-X. There is an incompatibility with the newer Epox boards (or any A1 NB revision for that matter) and Kingston Hyper-X modules especially when running in DC mode. If you have other RAM to test out, I bet you will do 200+FSB with no probs. Sorry to tell ya, but I cannot see 200+FSB no matter what the circumstances with that combination. :(

I was afraid of that.. I seen threads in other message boards having probs with the Kingston and the 8rda+.

This is the only ram I have except for some crucial 2100.. :(

Damn... I gave $117.00 a stick for that HyperX.

Guess I'll need to find a buyer for Kingston and get some Twinmos or Cosair

Yea man I know you must be pissed. I also know this won't be any consolation to you, but there are tons of guys who have done the same thing. Not trying to lambaste you, but just do as much research as possible in advance next time, and hopefully you wont have this problem again. Usually if there is some sort of incompatibility with new hardware the word will be out fast. Again not trying to make you feel bad, I would just take it as a learning experience. On another note, Winbond is very good stuff right now. At Newegg the BuffaloTech RAM is BH-5 and is doing about 220 with no probs. You could also go with the TwinMOS stuff at MemoryX. Hope you get things up and running well soon.:toast:

Yep, 3 sticks of TwinMOS here at 200fsb.TwinMOS chips onboard though which arent the best.Look for winbond chips instead.

I think I'm gonna get a couple sticks of 512MB Twinmos/Winbond (CH-5 chip) PC3200 CL2.5 .

Gonna throw those in there and see what happens. Then maybe do the VDD mod....

Thnx for all your help....
