Hey guys,

I'm working on an article for overclockers.com and its to bring some light to the DS3 and D9 issue. I've read several post here and over at anandtech that the issue comes right down to a resistor on the board, unfortunately I have yet to see a post were someone has actually said what resistor it is. All the post I've read are people saying they've done the mod and will post shortly but never post. So any help anyone has is appreciated.

Thanks!

there isnt a mod.......yet... or maybe never.

you will have to contact Gary Keys from AT to find out more about it.
he had meetings with gigabyte about all of this and thats when they found out it was a hardware issue.

get ahold of him. he did mention something a while back about maybe, maybe. getting a hardware mod figured out but he hasnt mentioned it since.
he is here also, but hasnt openly admitted to he is gary, but i think everyone knows it. but for now i wont give his forum name here as like i said he really hasnt openly admitted to being gary from AT.

Thanks, I just pm'ed him(saw the name before you edited it), and if it turns out not to be Gary then I'll had over to anandtech.

This seems to be an issue isolated to E6300 users. Spend the extra few bucks on the E6400 or E6600 and get up to 3+ gigs like normal people. :p:

Well its not just FSB. I though the overclock of the memory itself was limited to not much above 920 Mhz.

For example lets say I had a 400 FSB and wanted to run the memory 4:5 for 1000 Mhz.....supposedly this "resistor" problem won't let me do that.

thats really too bad considering i didn't want to have to upgrade my mobo for a long time, but when i have 2 gigs of fatbody sitting in my BACKUP PC running @ 238Mhz, i mean thats a damn crying shame :(. Might have to go for one of these new fangled 680i things. we shall see what the new year brings, shame to hear its a hardware issue though, i was holding out for a bios update to fix it.

no its not its isolated to 6300 users. it happens to anyone who has any chip and using ram with D9 Micron chips.

its a shame cuz this board is smoking. still now even after selling my DS3 i say that dollar for dollar this is one of the best conroe boards you can get.
if not one of the best. then the best of the lower priced boards.
its a hard choice though given that for 40 dollars more you can get a P5B Dlx, and for 10 more than that a Dlx WiFi.

but any way you look at it its a great board.

Not necessarily, (BTW, this is before I lapped the CPU and BT)
