Well,
Time to start R9800 shopping. That is, if NV35 doesn't screw things up! Right now I just wish technology would slow down...
too much new stuff at one time.
So if i want a r9800, options
Best Buy $430 (with tax)
CompUSA $430
Online $420
OK, they're all the same. So, I want a card that does REALLY NASTY OC, right? So I would assume that you should grab a card, test it on air and it'll tell you how well it'll OC?
Lets say for example you get one that does 390/360 tops on air...
I'd say return it....tell them like..."It doesn't look any different than my ti4200" or something. However this must be done at a Best Buy or CompUSA. BTW, Fry's doesn't stock them yet...
Let them refund your credit card and go to a differrent BB and grab another...keep doing it until you get one that does like 450/390 on air...then vmod it, drop the pelt on it and the HS right??
Hey Major, how's your R9800 doing? Where are your OC at??

I got mine at bestbuy, I like buying local so I can return it after I kill it ! hehe
I was going to do the vmods yesturday but didn't get around to it, right now with my MCW50-T on it and some radio shack TO220 al hs on the ram it will do 490/380. I'm hopeing that the mods will get me to 520/400 but will have to see about doing them this week.

My mom wants to buy me a 9800 Pro (thats a first :p ) anyways should I go get one with her tomorrow or should I holdout for the 9800 Pro 256MB or the Geforce FX 5900 Ultra?
Mabe I can convince here to get me a Prometeia  so I don't half to go and build my own with my hard earned $$$ :toast:

Method Man is your mom single ?? divorced ?? hehe because she sounds very very cool !!!
I wouldn't think the 256mb version of the R9800pro would make that big of a difference in performance. The FX5900 Ultra is just around the corner, I have heard as early as June to be on the shelf. I have not seen any real reviews of any yet or credible comparisons to the R9800pro, but it might be worth waiting for since its just a few weeks away.

congrats on the prometeia, I wish my mom was that cool about stuff.
it's a better investment then a 9800 pro, as the prometeia isn't gonna be second best in 3 months.

Compusa has a great warranty policy. They will take it back for any reason whatsoever. I know a guy that tried to remove some tweakmonsters he epoxied on to the ram of a 9700pro. Needless to say, he pulled the ram right off the card. HE said it came like that and compusa took it back.

hehe, I've taken back 3 cards already to best buy that still had the ramsinks on them !!! It gets expensive after awhile. I use the radio shack TO220 al hs on most cards.
sorry im new to these RMA stuff........
i currently have a stuffed up 9700pro......
it displays red dots all over the screen even when it is not pushed........
this is the outcome of benchmarking with artifects......
would i still be able to RMA? it had no mod....just OC'd......
also im considering the 9800pro........ so if i buy one and its a crap OC'er.....i can just sayIt doesn't look any different than my ti4200" or something." and they'll give a new one?
thanks

so if i buy one and its a crap OC'er.....i can just sayIt doesn't look any different than my ti4200" or something." and they'll give a new one? It is easier to ask for the refund. After getting the refund then you buy one at a different store. If the one from the different store is crummy too, get the refund and buy another from the first store and so on.
I returned a 1700+ TbredB that wouldn't do 1600mhz to PCclub and i asked for a replacement because it didn't overclock good. After convincing the manager that the CPU and all the Nforce boards he sold were made to be overclocked... he agreed to it.
It is best to not use a CC to pay because they will credit it back to the card leaving a paper trail. If cash they usually don't even ask for your phony name.
