This is my 2nd build - 1st was 8 years ago. got a problem with this one - the bios is not reading the floppy drive. I've checked the cable (red dot, pin #1), but the thing is, when the sys boots, the Fdrive light comes on and stays on. I pulled the Fdrive and put in one I know is working, same thing - light comes on, bios won't recognize. This is an Asus P5W DH Deluxe. Everything else works fine. Intel core 2 duo E6600, ballistix ram. Lightning fast, but the Fdrive is bugging me. Should I just get an external FDrive? or keep at it. Also, I want to flash the bios with newest ver. (1707), - what is procedure? I can't yet make a floppy.

P.S. I've read all the advice re: cables and pins. When I go into the cmos, it says floppy drive not read. When I check with windows, the device manager says everything checks out, floppy controller is working, floppy drive is working properly, all drives installed, no conflicts, etc.

flashing bios in asus boards is very easy

just download the correct bios from asus site and save it to a folder in your hdd
then use the utility within bios...asus EZ flash
it will ask for a bios file....just point the way and you will be ok
concerning the floppy...well....led always on....afaik....means cable reversed

just disable the floppy in bios and use the flash utility
