Hi all...Seasons Greetings!

I am in the process of trying to get my computer to run in my chillbox. I was having all kinds of trouble starting and running the computer at anything below zero. I have come to the conclusion that it must be my video card (BFG 6800GT), as I tried two different northwood processors and the crashes followed with non-started occurred with both chips.

Can anyone direct me to a workaround or a solution? Do I need to do a bios mod? I thought there was Rivatuner tweak that could be done...

Help!

The 6800 gt and ultras have some type of cold-throttling. When a certain low and high temps are detected by the card (i forgot what the actual temps are) the card will reduce performance to a certain level. Throttle levels are set in the card's bios. This shouldn't cause your comp to crash, but you will notice a decrease in video performance in games or in benchmarks. A bios edit and flash should fix this. Use nvflash to copy the bios out of the card, and use nibitor to edit the bios. With this program you can set the 2d, 3d, and throttle clocks and voltages, and you can turn off temperature monitoring. Then use nvflash to flash the modified bios back into the card. Get the apps from mvktech.com. Use later versions of nibitor, like the ones released 2005 and forward, these I think have all the necessary features.

Thanks Modzilla! My computer largely runs fine in my chillbox until I close the lid and subject it to sub zero temps. I have tried two northwood processors to determine whether the CPU was coldbugged... the shutdwon and non-starts happened with both(?). I need to get another GPU in there to try out first.

Really frustrating as I am trying to tune the charge on the box and cannot do so until I get a comp running in there...
