Great work, bro, but you need a decent bench os *hint* *hint* ;)
Great, finaly the coldest phase change unit in belgium :D
Give it some spanking that cpu, only not too hard offcourse else again RMA ^^
I am eager to do some ln² on the cpu and cascade onto the GTX at your place^^

Disabling a core might help. ;)

How do you do that? Bios?
before
12-23-2006, 12:52 PM
You can disable cores with setting numproc of boot.ini file.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows" /noexecute=AlwaysOff /fastdetect /numproc=1

4257 is a go as well but seems to be slower.
4231*11.984 = 50704
4202*12.094 = 50818

S_pi won`t be slower with one core disabled, it will calculate pi in that same time like with two cores.Try it, can`t wait to see results :toast:

Hipro tested the disabling with his cpu and said the times were slower with one core.
LukeXE
12-24-2006, 01:48 AM
Really ? I thinked that S_pi isn`t optimised for two cores, so second core give to us only option, to run two S_pi in one time.
Good to know that, sorry for mistake.
massman@ How much slower ?
massman
12-24-2006, 01:55 AM
He didn't mention that
Thank you guys......
Actualy if you see at the picture, it was done with 1 CPU core (within msconfig and numproc=1).....It is SLOWER that when you have 2 CPUs.....Next time I'll try with them both.....

I've made a 10s flat @5025MHz with a core disable... Didn't look slower than with 2 cores enables to me! :D
Also, 4 cores enables on kentsfields don't give faster times than with only a single core enable... :)

Did you test both single core and dual core on the same clocks, same timings, same OS, same tweaks?
How much did you gain?

befor is right , with my old X2 i could do same time pi with 2 cores and with 1 core . but i dont know if this still counts :) , gone fire up the cascade and play some more .
befor how mutch did u gain in core clock speed with one disabled ?
